According to the Constitution, any somali no matter where he is from Ethiopia, Djibouti, or Kenya, or has lived in China for the last century is entmali citizenship. For all else, you have to live Somalia for a least five years to qualify for citizenship.
The constitution isn't worth the paper it's written on.

Head down to Bakara Market or a Somali embassy and you'll get your citizenship for a fee. The man making the passport is looking after his pocket. Finnish, Macedonians, Eritrieans, mass murdering psycho from Bosnia, it doesnt matter. It's a business for the crooked SFG employee. Hes more than happy to take your money

There is nothing called " Somalian". This is a contemporary North American construct and has no support linguistically.

“Somali” in my humble opinion is not a race but an ethnic group that have a common geography, identity, language and culture; institutions if you like.

Jaalle Tanker (wadaniyadda); that was the old constitution. I read somewhere that the new constitution does not automatically grant citizenship to any Somali.

It is a complicated issue though; Nationality? a citizenship?Ethnicity? Are these acquired? born into?

LOL. The children of AMISOM; depends. I am not that familiar with the new constitution (which I call, the warlords' constitution) but, if their parents are somalis and if they speak the somali language, I think they might have a chance.

What is " Bedoons"?

Do you mean that any person who lives in the Somali republic is a citizen? What about Somalis who migrated and naturalised in the diaspora? What about the issue of nationality? are there any differences between nationality and citizenship?

I heard that under the new constitution, the issue of ethnicity (somali) has been discarded. In theory, what that means is that I am no longer a citizen

I don't think neither who screws who nor the down under of women should be a constitutional issues. The task of a constitution is not to "ban" but to devise legal instruments.

Arabic????? Why is that? What about dialects?

Why didn't they keep the old constitution? It was a great document.

I see. The 4,5 system and the so called "Federalism" are the worst sort of cancers that has befallen our people. :( :(

Basically, , the "new" constitution gives legal weight to tribalism. How sad!!!

Is it a good thing or a bad thing for nationals of neighbouring countries to be granted citizenship solely based on their ethnicity?

What if only one parent is Somali? What if the grandparent was the Somali? Is the descendant still entitled?

It is a good thing because those territories belong to Somalia by right. By enfranchising the somalis in occupied territories in ethiopia and kenya, they will feel more somali and that they have a voice/stake in the the nation's future.
