Pay back : twin blasts in Kenyan capital

TWIN BLASTS KILL AT LEAST 10 IN
KENYAN CAPITAL
Two improvised explosives detonated
in a market area near downtown
Nairobi, the latest in a string of
bombings
May 16, 2014 10:45AM ET
Two blasts hit Kenya's capital on
Friday, killing at least 10 people and
injuring 70 more in the latest in a
string of increasingly frequent terror
attacks.
The blasts came the same week the
United States and the United
Kingdom issued renewed warnings
about possible terror attacks in
Kenya, leading to a bristling
response on Friday from the
country's president, who said such
warnings strengthen the will of those
who carry out acts of terror.
"Terrorism is not an evil that was
born in Kenya. Terrorism is a
worldwide phenomenon," President
Uhuru Kenyatta told a previously
planned news conference that took
place shortly after the blasts.
Nairobi Police Chief Benson Kibue,
who announced the casualty figures,
said two improvised explosive
devices detonated in a market area
near downtown Nairobi. One blast hit
a mini-van used for public
transportation.
Before the blasts, the U.S. embassy
sent out a new travel alert Friday to
American citizens warning of a
continued terrorist threat in a country
where the U.S. Embassy suffered a
devastating attack in 1998.
An earlier U.S. warning this week
said for the first time that the
embassy itself is taking new steps to
increase security "due to recent
threat information regarding the
international community in Kenya."
Smaller bombings
Security concerns have long been
high in Kenya because of its
proximity to Somalia and the Al-
Qaeda-linked armed group that
operates there. In September, four al-
Shabab gunmen attacked an upscale
mall in Nairobi
, killing at least 67 people. The 1998
embassy bombing killed more than
200.
The U.S. Embassy says that more
than 100 people have been killed in
shootings, grenade attacks and small
bombs in Kenya over the past 18
months.
Since the mall attack, Kenya has
suffered numerous smaller bombings
in Nairobi and Mombasa. Kenyan
authorities, with the help of the FBI,
also discovered a huge car bomb
that could have caused massive
damage.
Armed Marines now patrol the U.S.
Embassy grounds in Nairobi in bullet
proof vests and helmets. Increasingly
frequent emergency drills tell
embassy staff: "Duck and cover, duck
and cover."
"We know from experience whether
it's been in Yemen where embassies
have been attacked or in Benghazi
where our consulate and ambassador
was attacked, anything that is a
symbol of a foreign country is a
potential target," said Scott Gration,
the immediate past U.S. ambassador
in Kenya.
Kenyatta said the government would
install 2,000 security cameras in
Nairobi and Mombasa to help thwart
future attacks.
TUI Travel, which owns the British
tourism companies Thomson and
First Choice, canceled all flights to
Mombasa until October because of
the security alert. The company also
evacuated customers in Kenya on
flights Thursday and Friday.
Gration said many tourism companies
have insurance policies that don't
allow travelers to be in high-risk
locations. He said Kenya's coast is a
beautiful and mostly safe location.
"My belief is that everywhere there
are issues and we all need to be
prudent in when we go and where we
go," Gration said. "So I don't travel at
night, avoid big crowds and lock my
doors. Whether you are in Newark,
New Jersey or Nairobi, Kenya, we
can all fall victim to crime or
terrorism."

This is literally a ticking time bomb. The Bantus will soon go crazy on all the Somalis cause of this. Somalis need to go back to the NFD or Somalia proper as soon as possible. Don't know how much longer they'll last until they start taking out their machetes, 2 more blasts perhaps, maybe 5 more......God knows but it literally looks like its just something waiting to happen.

That city is getting blasts than Mogadishu these days

Looks like Al Shabab is going to the source of their problems

Billions of dollars for intelligence budgets. There are dozens of fake extremists on Western payroll that send information back to London and Washington and other Western capitals

Substance is right. Kenyan tourism industry is finished

That is a very scary possibility. At this rate they'd be better off in Somalia. I know a lot of Somalis are Kenyan by nationality and heritage but you can't hide or escape from your woriya looks and if the locals stop using logic to understand the difference between terrorist and Somali then wey u dhamatey. Rwanda part 2.

This is so stupid, Kenya is already on the knife edge and al-Shabaab's answer is more bombings?

What happens when angry mobs start going around indiscriminately murdering every Muslim they can get their hands on? Muslims are outnumbered 10 to 1 in Kenya. The current president might even endorse such an idea to "solve the terror problem once and for all" :?

Alshabab aim is to dissolve this artificial nation created by Britain and it makes sense for them to keep bombing Nairobi. However if the Kenyan respond is genocide and crimes against innocent somalis then they have to answer for their crime, one way or the other. These monkeys are already putting somalis in concentration camps and abuse them daily.

Inside job. 2 words only needed to explain the situation.

Somalis have no business being in Kenya (minus NFD), soon they'll be eradicated from there anyways due to state policies.

Not to mention Muslims like Somalis are very easy to tell cause of their physical features. This is what makes it even more dangerous. At least if you are a Muslim Kikuyu or something you could get away with a lie and a bit of luck with a scenario like that.

RIP to all the innocent victims though. I don't know if all those blasts were truly caused by Al-shabaab (I don't think they all are) or by certain, possibly even politically motivated groups who have other motivates. It is the perfect opportunity anyway, the security service & Police will just blame Al-Shabaab.

I'm saying that Kenyans are responsible for their actions and if even the president endorses etnic cleaning then most somalis will be forced to support alshabab against the terror from kikuyu. Kenya is not the victim here as some likes to potray. I don't know the outcome but I know the sitaution is bad already; atleast for somalis. But things are catching up, like the famous saying goes don't throw stones if you live in a glass house. Kenya just did that.

alshabaab are doing good job, they should hit nairobi every day and leave mogadishu alone, if alshabaab stop bombing somalis and target other countries i am sure they will be recognuzed as heroes. somalis must stop investing nairobi they should come back to somalia or NFD. more bombings is the only way we can defeat kenya, the big nose kenyan bastards wants to occupy somala. ahmed madoobe must establish regular jubaland army because kenya cant take the heat, soon they will pull their troops. gunaysiga madaw halala dagaalamo lacagta ummada soomaaliyeed oo dhan nairobi baa inamo yaryar ku cunaan.
