I'm fasting, ramadan karim to you too.

You cannot modify a fast because it's 22 hours simply because it's 'too much' for you, do you think Ramadan is some sort of month of comfort?

22 hours is absolutey doable and I don't see the need to apply the Makkan timezone to your sawm, if anything such a sawm would be rejected, it would be 100% ironic and superficial.

Fasting is from dawn to dusk.

Zubeyr you are only speaking from your ego and not knowledge. Since when is religious law dictated by what Zubeyr can handle? Are you the criterion in which laws are made? Woe to Islam if it has lasted this long without you.

Verily God has addressed (all) believers about the obligation of fasting so the Almighty says: “Believers! Fasting has been made obligatory upon you as it was made upon those before you so that you become fearful of God,” and the beginning and the end of fasting is explained as the Almighty says: “And eat and drink until the white thread of the dawn is totally evident to you from the black thread of night; then complete the fast till nightfall,” and this directive is not specific to any city or any type of people, rather, it is made as a general rule, and the people who are the subject of the question (i.e. those living in places where night during summer lasts only three hours) are included in this general rule.

I'm not speaking from my ego but it's dissapointing for some to actually believe that if they fasted for 22 house they'd some what put their bodies in jeapordy.

The laws that have come with fasting were not given to one region that is located at the equator (arabia), Allah has full wisdom and knew that in the future there will be muslims in circumstances such as Yalaxow, yet Allah declares;

And eat and drink until the white thread (light) of dawn appears to you distinct from the black thread (darkness of night), then complete your fast till nightfall. 2:187 (6)

And so even if Yalaxow was to break his fast in some 'fear' of damaging his health, he'd have to stop eating after a small morsel, and that fast he broke would be made up for after Ramadan.

Allah has made ramadan a month so that lacallakum tattaqoon, so that we may have conciousness and awareness and fear of Allah, not of food and bad health. Allah is the one who can cause bad health and good health yet people are evading him in fear that they cannot handle it. If you are not sick, if you are not travelling, then you have absolutely no excuse to break a fast, this is the dominant view of islam and the prophet said "my ummah will not gather upon misguidance".

By Allah this is not my ego speaking nor am I speaking out of arrogance, it irritates me to see people altering Ramadhan in order for it to be compliant for their needs.

No. Islam is supposed to be a religion that is simple to understand, not simple to practice.

The religion says to fast when its daylight and break it when its dark. You shouldn't be living in places where its 24 hour sunlight to begin with but they should follow the nearest location, not Mecca. If there's only 10 minutes of darkness then eat your afur and sahuur within that time.

If you go to Somalia for Ramadan simply because of the 6 pm sundown, you are cheating. Take into thought that your fast may not be accepted. Allah knows true intentions. You ran away from a challenege that God gave you

We are supposed to be doing what the religion said. We know God will understand those in the situation of the 24 hr sunlight guys (nearest location, not Mecca) but how do you know he will let the 23 hr guys off?

you must be insane to fast 22 hours for a month, that is just torture.

if the early arabs ever traveled to Scandinavia or knew such places where little sunlight existed, i'm sure they'd make an exception. but unfortunately these nomads got all their information from stolen ancient scribes and didn't know any better. so in short, please don't torture yourself and eat away!

Brother Yalaxoow is making sense.
Finally i agree. Those who say its bidah, imagine if muslims live where the sunset takes for days. Does it mean u must fast for days without breaking and praying maghrib?
Islam is made to be easy, not hard. So i fully agree with the turkish imams.

Actually it would be better if we hold the same times with Makkah and Madinah during ramadans. Breaking fast at 18:00 :stylin:

Go to the north pole and fast for days (counting as one ramadan day  ).

The thing is he doesn't live in the artic or the north pole, 22 hours is manageable, if you're living in a land where you find it hard to practise the obligatory acts of Islam, then the only options you have is to either comply with the harshness or make hijra, you cannot try and modify it to your likings.

The Azhar ruling seems sensible. I've just forwarded it to relatives in Scandinavia. They can verify it and choose to adopt it if they want.
