I can never understand how corruption exists

Postby AbdiJohnson » Thu Jul 10, 2014 7:44 pm

You betray your country and people when you steal. Why do it? Somalis are notorious for this.

Honestly if there was $1B infront of me right now in a safe and I was in charge of collecting taxes, it would never occur to me to take even a penny. You're just contributing to the problems.

What is your point in living if you take anything from government coffers? This is what I say to myself when I see the various Somalis and African politicians and even the low level bureaucrats who buy million dollar homes or even take $5 bribes from pedestrians crossin the street

I find corruption to be as bad as murder

thats where you go wrong,
what country? what people?
somalis are only concerned about their families and clan,
the country can go to hell.

Civil servants are to serve the public.

If people are only concerned about themselves and their family they shouldn't be in positions of authority or in government to begin with.

But you are right Gurey. I don't think there are any Somalis that go into politics or work in the government because they feel the need to serve their country. I don't think 5% do.

I wouldn't judge you at all for taking 10% of that, you're only human. The problem with Africa (Somalia included) is....more than likely, an official would take the greater percentage of the money because of mindbogglingly unchecked greed

Corruption has been a part of us since the time of Adam. Personally, I wouldn't touch that hypothetical $1 billion because of my own personal pride and principles - I despise all those take money they haven't worked for, even the poor. However, there is a understanding that if you are corrupt, you do so in the least overt way. So in tbe west and asia, the might cream off the top of that $1 billion in subtle ways such as claiming travel expenses, accepting bribes and positions etc. In africa where they haven't quite fully evolved yet, the least corrupt politician will steal half of that $1 billion dollars and buy a jet and mansion the very next day.

Corruption is disease but it is endemic and low level in developed countries. In Africa and the middle-east it is a direct cause of poverty and a lack of growth. We must have severe penalties for ministers and bureaucrats who are convicted of corruption. They should be sent to labour-camps and the worst offenders put to death.

A long time ago, an acquaintance told me institutional corruption was invented by the British.

Well, abdi---Humans are by nature Selfish. That is how we are built. Corruption in the right circumstances---such as ---NON CONSTITUTIONAL laws and third world like law---will flourish. Sure, there is the personal moral accountability that you are talking about-- that you-- yourself --cannot --steal. HOW DO U KNOW THAT??? U have not be tested yet. U cant possibly know. Here, in the west, where u reside-- there are laws, not only--that--there are balance and checks. Why do you think Constitution here in America is so Magnificent? ITs because it took century of wars, wars, corruption, and corruption-- to know what a human being will do. To know a human is selfish. These balance and checks of three branches of government guarantees no corruption. Somalia needs balance and check government--otherwise-- I don't blame them for stealing or helping your fellow tribesmen--even though u know-- another tribes men by qualification deserves a government post. :stylin:
