50k w/out accommodation and after taxes, your looking at some where in the 30s with extensive pay cuts every other year, VS 60k tax free which includes contracts to free living accommodations among other services, You be the judge.

If I was into teaching, And liked the idea of living there, I'd seriously consider it as well.

Not to mention, the quality of living is probably much higher than in the good ol west.
