No Somali person in the last century or so has named themselves Arap, what makes you think your granddaddy who' probably was born in 1940s was named arap too?

It's a old Somali name yes, has it been used? had it been used I would've seen it amongst isaaq folk and gadabursi folk, name me a poet, a fighter, anybody who's known as arap besides the tribe itself? your digging yourself in a deeper hole than you're already in.
