Somali men nowadays want to sit around and shake their heads and claim that their women are a disgrace. But does it ever occur to them that they are suppose to be our protectors our maintainers? Any shortcoming that Somali women have is due to the fact that our men have failed us.

No we can't. Me personally I have a job, went to school, don't do Jaad yet I have no problem taking ownership saying that many of us do and I have to own that problem that we somali men have too many deadbeats, bums, losers. As for Somali girls they have a problem of being desperate, thirsty and un classy. Does that mean all Somali Guys are bums and all Somali girls are loose and easy? No, but the problem exists and its real and we can't run from it.

You are right. Bad-parenting is the number one problem in the Somali diapora. I would even put it ahead of tribalism. There are plenty of broken homes with dead-beat dads who are hardly in their children's lives. The high divorce-single-parent rate in the somali community only serves to exacerbate the problem. But that is only one side of the problem. Allah made us human being not Angels. We have the freedom to choose our own path and must take responsibility for our actions as well. The incident of somali teens acting out is proportionally higher in our community not just because of bad-parenting but also an inherent lack of sharaf and naivety in our youth. They instictively make bad choices. Is this problem biological or environmental? I don't know. You don't see arab or asian girls doing this not just simply because they were brought up with self-respect and pride but they also have it innately. The same thing applies to somali boys too who have fallen behind all other minorities counter-parts in education and jobs.

I don't think they ended up with Engineers. The local Faaraxs would have won their hearts had they dared but they were afraid to be mocked, repulsed and shamed which obviously was not likely.

Many parents leave parenting to the TV and the school system. There is also an elephant in the room saaxib; the fertility rates. We have fallen into a trap with huge ramifications. Too many kids too much welfare high fertility (more kids more money they reason) ... vicious circle.
