Blame Siad Barre. Before his coup, Somalia was self-sufficient and many analysts had high hopes for the country. But thanks to political corruption, Barre saw his opportunity and took control. It was all downhill from there.
The somali people haven't failed, the somali politicians have. Just look at the political section and see all the tribal nicnac and bullshit.

Why are the self haters all from Somaliland/Somalia?
Firstly, I don't see the relevance of your post. Somalis are somalis everywhere. Secondly, the overwhelming majority of self-haters and negative posters are not from Somaliland. Thirdly, as a djiboutienne, you are the last person to talk about self hate. In Djibouti airport, they have signs for english, arabic and french for god's sake.

the kids have nothing to do with this
their parents however have everything to do with why these kids are not to be compared to South korean kids.
if parents were to change how they raise their kids and what they tell their children. maybe we wouldn't have monkeys in leadership position like we do right now.
instead they mould the innocent Somali kid into a Zoomali when they teach their children hatred, spite, and other retarded things Somalis teach their children.
Average Somali parents single handely fuck up the future for Somalis.
blame the parent not the kids.
South Korean parents > Somali parents

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. Don’t complain.” Maya Angelou
there seems a universal attitude most of us have which is we love to complain, especially about how bad things are for us as Somalis, how terrible it is to be Somali, some of us even blame God for the conditions Somalis are in, so i have to wonder about what any of us complainers may have attempted to do to try and change our circumstance(s)?
sure complaining certainly is one way to handle things particular-periods in our lives however, i've never found complaining to be terribly productive to tell you the truth, if anying it has turned us into a self loothing ethnic. just look at that Seoul thread!
things change when people act maxaa yeelay complaining accomplishes nothing, if you have a problem with something you’re responsible for fixing it that is if it’s really important to you, then you do it; don’t expect other people to adopt your agenda and put it into action, don't expect every Somali person to be as smart and civilized as you think you're and certainly don't do it from the comfort of your Western adopted nations (you're far removed from reality)
Somalia doesn't need whiners, what it needs is people with conviction, character and who are admirably purposeful in their thinking. (may allah swt make us one of them)
please do something, anything to help

LiquidH, Vicious, Anzeloto ....
Well, well, it is great to see angry young men that are touched by the persistent statelessness, abject poverty and the lack of economic progress in Somalia. This is a good step and is better than the constant blame game.
But, let us get some facts right;
a) Somalia has never been free from aid. In fact, none of the former European colonies was. At independence, many African countries had inferior infrastructure, healthcare and education were non-existent not to mention the absence of experience in running a country. The number of somalis with a college degree at the time of independence was less than two dozen. People expected that they will milk Maandeeq once independence knocks. They never analysed statehood, governance etc.
b) There were less than a dozen secondary schools. There were four hospitals ( 2 in xamar; psychiatry ward and Martin, one in Hargeisa and one in Merca)
c) The majority of Somalis were nomads whose knowledge of creating and sustaining a state was zero.
d) The 1969 revolution came because of corruption and tribalism.
e) We easily embraced communism for its firebrand rhetoric and its egalitarian appeal without considering that communism is for the intellectually gifted and mainly based on the surplus labour production. Communism is not a philosophy for nomads; it is for a nation that produces goods.
The underlying reasons for our current abyss:
a) High level of fertility without resources(employment opportunities) to sustain population growth. A kind of Malthusian nightmare combined with tribal cannibalism with nascent undertones which we all sing amen to.
b) Years of communism, the civil war and overseas welfare benefits have combined to make our people lethargic and inactive to sweat to make a decent living. every bugger wants to become a millionaire and lead an expensive lifestyle.
c) We want to lead the life of a king although we are even far from that of the thraldom.
d) Tribalism, tribalism. We worship a primitive institution that negates the basic fabric of human intelligence. No one is ready to kill this elephant in the room.
e) Religion has been devalued to rhetoric and fashion.
f) Outward migration to welfare states in the west. We exported languid people who migrated to live on welfare.
g) All the above has led to a culture of waan-daadshe, ceeyr, single mother households, fadhi-ku-dirir in the diaspora and the formation of lalalalands (underdeveloped godforsaken towns and villages), the desire to undertake perilous journeys not to mention the sick formulae of 4,5.
All the above= moral decay

Siad Barre came to power in 1969. What exactly is your point here?
the kids have nothing to do with this
their parents however have everything to do with why these kids are not to be compared to South korean kids.
if parents were to change how they raise their kids and what they tell their children. maybe we wouldn't have monkeys in leadership position like we do right now.

South Korean parents > Somali parents
Then say that. The problem is culture. Because from the sounds of it your initial post implied that Somalis are inheretly inferior to Koreans.
Again, though, you're comparing apples and oranges. Koreans are highly conformist and cohesive. Somalis aren't, especially after two decades of lawlessness and refugeedom. Compare a stable and peaceful Somalia to South Korea. Because right now it's like comparing an emaciated and disease-ridden corpse to a young and healthy athlete, not fair and ludicrous.
@Jaalemarx, it's one thing to critique and offer objective advise, it's quite another to insult an entire ethnicity (especially your own) and obsequiously kiss another group of people's arse while not even reading the history or the facts behind them all from the comfort of a another country.
The problem is a cultural one. The good thing is that it can be changed. The bad thing is that it will take hard-work and our people are allergic to that like pollen. You should read what the foreigners had to say about pre-industrial Germany and Japan.
These people wallow in self-hat and insult their own, yet spend copious amounts of time interacting with somalis and have nothing positive to contribute to their betterment. Hypocrisy.

Liquid,
The notion that it is cultural is what makes it difficult to change. It will take generations to change because cultural change is a gradual process.
In my humble opinion, we need men and women who say NO to the moral decay we are witnessing. Brave men and women who question the foundations of the tribe and other ills that have befallen our society. We are at the same stage as middle age Europe, 18th century asia.
At the moment, the wadaad, the waranle and the waable are on the boat of moral decay.
P.s. I think the word self-hate is often used to silence differing opinions that are important to advance our society

True. That doesn't mean we can't witness economic growth at the same time. The problem is that the majority 99% ignorant always sideline and silent the intelligent 1%. Just look at Prof Samatar in Xamar.
Also tribalism is a worldwide problem, it's just not as destructive and self-defeting as it is in Somalia. Did you know that 75% of Korea's presidents all hail from one region? Regionalism/tribalism is not something anybody can completely get rid of, humans are stupid after all.
I feel the bigger problem and threat is the Somali penchant for complacency and a lack of originality. Just look at the threads and sub-forums to do with Somaliland, Puntland and Xamar. A single poorly constructed road is celebrated for days on end and lorded over other tribal bantustans. For the lack of orginality, just look at all the "businesses" back home. They are overwhelmingy fall into 3 categories; Hotels/restaurants, Xawaalads or Telecom companies.

there is no inferior or superior race .
but there is inferior and superior behaviour, minds and psychology !
JalleMarx

I couldn't help but agree with what you said.
the more somalis want to hold on to qabil and other things that do not belong to this current time and age the more it is likely that the Somali race will be extinct in the next century.
adaptation is what separates humans from animals

Economic growth is subject to the creation of institutions. The main problem in Somalia as I see it the absence of a justice system. It is the A-Z of institutions.
I disagree on your assertion that tribalism is a worldwide phenomenon because a) tribalism is often connected to the issue of language/ethnicity in other countries. SOmalis have one language and one ethnic group b) regionalism is often a spatial concept and there are geographic boundaries. It does not rest on the nonsense of abtiris.
The majority of Somalinet users have never been to Somalia (and if they have been they have been in tribal enclaves and have been fed cool aid). The fact of the matter is that all somali inhabited territories are underdeveloped. The so called cities are dusty villages/towns. Somalis brag alot; they will call a stone a mountain, a pond an ocean and thugs presidents.
Somali business in Somalia and overseas are not that good. I have travelled alot. It is anigaba waan sameeyn karaa. They function outside the realm of economics.
