The Somali one looking back on it and it's still ongoing is so much simpler to understand. It's a shame Somalis can't see the simple solutions

But when I look at Syria, that place is screwed forever. So many moving parts, so many vested nations...

Funny, i think Somalia has more of a chance to return to stability than Syria in this current climate...Somalis can forget their differences and move on, war tires people out. There is no clear direction in Syria at all, you have a crazy dog as Prez, and you have countless opposition who are fighting on several fronts against each other and now daily drones being dropped.

Syrian civil war: Khawarij(ISIS) and Assad on one side and the rebels on the other side.

Somali civil war: Warlords/Qabilists using as Shabab, Powerseekers/dictators using Shabab on one side, Gaalo-raac and Gaalos on the other side and the masaakiin, few politicians/activists and a few freedom fighters(I don't know if they exist) in the middle of this.

Thing is Somalia will never unite to its old self due to qabil supremacy unless one qabiil overpowers the rest while Syria is going to over-ran by the Sunnis sooner rather than later due to their numbers.

at least most of somalia was not built when its civil war started, most of it was desert anyway.. but Syria a entire country of population 25 million and ancient historic cities reduced to ruins. the photos coming from Aleppo!

It's exactly the same. They should have taken a look at Somalia, neighbouring Lebanon,Iraq, Afghanistan etc to see what was to become of Syria after this conflict.

We used to have Hindus, Christians, Khoja Muslims, Arabs, Persians, other Africans living amongst us enriching our culture. While in Syria, Christians, Kurds, Turkumens, Yazidi, Allawi, Sunnis have been living together for hundreds of years.
Both Syria and Somalia are battling AlQaeda groups and local militias.
Refugee camps in neighbouring countries because of both conflicts and the majority are women and children.

nobody even cared about somalia before the icu.somali war only makes news because of alshabab.syria is a far more important and strategic county due to close promoxity to israel, iran,iraqoil,etc.and the shia, sunni, alawite tensions do not really exist to such a great extent.i am baasto somalia is no syria unit.

anyone watch that aljazeera documentary on the syrian civil war last night. thats got to be the most brutal war going on. i felt nervous just watching it. pretty graphic. alawis from what ive read about them seem to have left the fold of islam with their beliefs. so i believe its xaq

It's not the same. Somalis fought for qabil before any religious reasons

What it really comes down to if leaders were looking out for the best interest of everyone and protecting their people then groups like ISIS, Alshaab, taliban etc would not exist. The Same thing applies with SNM, USC etc

A lot of my dad's coworkers mention Somalia/Somaliland's "failed state" status and 20+ years of civil war, and Aabo used to say the above verse, and carry on with the banter.Yeminis were ironically the most likely to make these comments. When this all kicked off back in the "Arab spring" days, he used to give a knowing grin with an "I told you so" face.

It's not something to gloat about though, so much death, destruction, suffering and lives destroyed for all Muslims. Now we're all desensitised by it. The numbers of dead people no longer have that kind of effect on us.
