Indeginous Somali Script

Postby Caesar » Mon Sep 22, 2014 7:51 am

This may possibly be the oldest Somali script in existence :blessed:

Do you all think Somalis should adopt their native ancient script(s)? Rather then foreign ones?

There is no proof that it exists. That picture is all there is and it could just be another made-up nonsense - somalis aren't famous for their honesty.

i like the latin script. it is easier for other non somali people to learn and it is the most identified script.

I say keep the Latin script but change it a bit like the way french changed C to Ç . or these letters (Áÿōß)

like turkish and russian you feel me?

So we should base our national and cultural decisions on whether or not it's convenient for non-somalis? I don't give a monkey's ass if other people want to learn somali or not. People will learn it if it becomes important - like chinese or russian which are both extremely difficult and have their own writing systems.

okay but what script do we have? we can dig up some old outdated alphabets but that will take forever. we can create some weird lines out of the blue but that will also be time consuming.

the best option imo is to add few more letters to the incomplete latin version we use today and create a complete Somali alphabet

This script is Ancient Sumaado of the Cisse, It could be used a indigenous Somail alphabet one day.

Most clans have their own far anyways. Only uncivilized people don't since they had no use for reading and writing.

Oral people are uncivilized? What logic is this? Literature is derivative from a oral culture, people first communicate before they document things, in oral culture, like somali culture, history may be preserved orally through poems.

Zubier it's true, how can a society advance without reading or writing?
