Why aren't all Somalis seeking higher education?

I don't get why some Somalis pass up such great opportunities. Yeah there's quite a few Somalis in uni (75%+ girls), but in this country, the Somali enrollment in universities and technical colleges should be at least 95% for both genders. The ones who don't pursue anything after HS make the excuse that post-secondary education is too expensive, but the fact of the matter is that universities aren't as expensive as ppl think they are. This year, I'm making money going to school (scholarships/bursaries/grants outweigh tuition and student fees). There's so much free money out there, especially for young Somalis thanks to bleeding heart Liberals who feel like throwing money at minorities to feel good about themselves. And once you have a degree or a certification, this opens the door to many things. Sure you might have to move for a job, but at least you have something to say that you've accomplished.

its not all about a degree certificate, people are different not all are academic. some want apprenships and work all the way up, some are very practical and prefer to do labouring to make cash, others start their own businesses. I mean the more different types of people out there doing different things 2 be successful the better, its not all about degree's you know. I just cant wait to finish mine soon inshallah, I just wanna go to a proper job with what ive qualified in not working part time in retail.

That's why I mentioned technical colleges...schools that focus on the trades and other hands-on professions.

This the only idea I have

I remember reading a article on the forums, can't find it, about a group of Somali men in their late 20s and early 30s creating a some sort of community program providing tutoring, after school activities for young boys etc. I think having programs like these might help keep boys out of trouble and provide good role models for them.

I think the present Somali men who are independent, educated and have a good head on their shoulders should help spear head these issues and work with struggling Somali families and create programs like this.

University isnt for everyone.some people are better of pursuing vocational courses. How many somali boys were pressured to go uni with rubbish grades and then ended up dropping out or graduating with worthlesss degrees from crap unis? Many.im talking about the uk.we need more plumbers, mechanics and the like.

There are people with degrees who drive buses and taxis for a living. I'm all for getting educated but it doesn't always have to be academic. Apprenticeships, trades, working your way up a corporation
