Ronneberg added that Norway looks into increasing business relations with Kenya which has already increasing twenty fold within the last years mainly within retail, telecom and financial services.

President Kenyatta said Kenya will benefit from cooperation with Norway in managing the newly discovered petroleum resources terming the European nation a role model on how to manage revenues in the sector.

Norway maintains the largest sovereign fund in the world currently estimated to be over $884 billion, owns 1% of the entire world’s stocks, and is big enough to make every citizen a millionaire in the country’s currency, the kroner.

Kenya's president has announced that oil has been discovered in his East African nation for the first time, and a foreign oil firm said the find is similar to the valuable light crude previously discovered in neighbouring Uganda.

President Mwai Kibaki cautioned on Monday that commercial viability of the oil find in the northwest Turkana region is still uncertain, but he welcomed the news, calling it "a major breakthrough".

"This is the first time Kenya has made such a discovery and it is very good news for our country," Kibaki said.

"It is, however, the beginning of a long journey to make our country an oil producer, which typically takes in excess of three years."

Tullow Oil, which is carrying out oil exploration in the region and has a 50 per cent interest in multiple sites in Kenya and Ethiopia, said that 20 metres of net oil pay was discovered at a site called Ngamia-1 in Kenya's Turkana County.

Khalid,

Wanlawein are not intelligent people. It is now a fact even the Kikuyu has a higher IQ.

Dr Calooley is a good example. He failed to comprehend a very simple concept.

Norway found the oil off the coast of Kenya on Kenyan maritime border but Norway believes the large junk is on the other side of the border. So it advised Kenya to expand its maritime border and push Somalia's uncontrolled one back. That is the motive behind Kenya's ambitious plan but Dr Calooley is typical ape.

He can't understand that.

Block K on Kenya depends on block W on Wanlawein side. So Norway's position is Kenya grab block W while Wanlawein is dead.

Norway is eyeing the off shore oil, you are right. However, that is not the basis of the article and your thread title is misleading. Norway has no legal authority to drill oil in somali waters. Whether or not they care is another matter.

You do know the disputed area is under Kenyan naval control and Somalia has no coast guard to patrol its waters what is stopping Kenya and Norway going there , there is allot of oil and kenya is eyeing on those resources. kenya has documents Somali politicians ibi and former pm cumar buur giving legitimacy to kenya over those areas. You shall see in a few months when oil explorations comes.

I'm well aware of the situation. My point was we all know Norway and Kenya were signing oil deals anyway so your thread title is misleading. I, however, have no doubt that what you say will take place and when kenya is exporting trillions of dollars of somali oil in a few years time, the brain dead walaweyn still be talking about SL. An entire nation of retards.

This is for oil near Uganda.. not offshore.

Somalia has plenty of suitors for oil. Turkey really needs an energy source.
