TEHRAN, Iran - Iran's hard-line president called for Israel to be "wiped off the map" and said a new wave of Palestinian attacks will destroy the Jewish state, state-run media reported Wednesday.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also denounced attempts to recognize Israel or normalize relations with it.

"There is no doubt that the new wave (of attacks) in Palestine will wipe off this stigma (Israel) from the face of the Islamic world," Ahmadinejad told students Wednesday during a Tehran conference called "The World without Zionism."

"Anybody who recognizes Israel will burn in the fire of the Islamic nation's fury, any (Islamic leader) who recognizes the Zionist regime means he is acknowledging the surrender and defeat of the Islamic world," Ahmadinejad said.

Ahmadinejad also repeated the words of the founder of Iran's Islamic revolution, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who called for the destruction of Israel.

"As the Imam said, Israel must be wiped off the map," said Ahmadinejad, who came to power in August.

Ahmadinejad referred to Israel's recent withdrawal from the Gaza Strip as a "trick," saying Gaza is part of the Palestinian territories and the withdrawal was meant to make Islamic states acknowledge Israel.

Iranians aren't anti-semites. There are Jews living in Iran (around 40,000) even though they can migrate to their "homeland". There is even a Jewish representative in the Iranian parliament.

as for the mahdi, what about him? the stupid hadiths that say "a jew behind me" tree thingies are just that... stupid. why would a tree speak? these things spit in the face of the qu'ran. see 17:104, for example, where the prophesy is that: jews will enter israel... and once again they will be reunited in there in the future !

well, lion, i'm a somali. as far as i'm concerned, israelis and iranians are equal to me. i share not much with either of them... except islamic history (which both believe.)

no one wants iran to be utopia. utopia is not human. however, we want some equality for people. iranian women and children are one of the most unfortunate folks in the world. we just want things to be better. that is all.

israel is definitely not as bad as iran. israel has a lot of problems. internally and externally, but there is relative freedom. a person who doesn't care much about who rules the country... can have a freedom. muslims there worship freely. while in ha'ifa, one of israel's most developed cities, i was startled by the call of prayer from the masjid. it just looks ssssooo western that you FORGET. it was also a reminder of the relative freedom in israel. but this is not to say israel doesn't have its problems. every country -- including the best european nations -- have.

as for hadiths, i only don't like idiotic hadiths. we often call these "da3eef"/weak. but i like to call them idiotic
