Nothing "barbaric" about it; it's an understandable political decision. Bill Clinton fired the surgeon general for saying masturbation was normal. The Bangladeshi minister made a very ugly and stupid mistake saying such things publicly, he deserved to have been fired. If he wanted to prevent hajj—and there are some legitimate reasons for desiring that—he should have privately consulted the government to follow's China's example. The Chinese are brilliant at regulating their citizen's religious practices.

You can't be an elected public official and offend 80% of ur constituency. I don't see anything wrong with his resignation or firing. Shouldn't have bit the hand that fed him.

Doesn't matter what his religion was...very stupid thing to do.
