Unfortunately his popularity was already nose-diving in an increasingly more secular, pro-EU Turkey. He's got Islamic inclinations which most of that culture is avidly and keenly phasing out.

From an architectural viewpoint, "palace" looks more like an enlarged appartment complex?!
O'really?

Castles? :dwill:

I would take modern architects over castles at any cost.

Look at the word used in the title "palace"
Similar title's was regurgitated by the BBC, NY TIMES, and major news outlets.

It's amazing how a single title changes your perception and attitude towards a story.

The Secular Turkish opposition got 50 % of the votes in the last election the problem is the secular Turkish parties are not United but the Islamist government is really hated by the Turkish population.

300000 Turks this week went to protest about teaching children Islam in the public schools

£384 million palace? And he also spent £115 million on a new presidential jet? And how did he earn all that money (half a billion £)? Didn't know Turks were as corrupt as Arabs.

That is one ugly looking building, both interior and exterior.

Thanks walal, watched the whole thing. It's very interesting that he touched on the point I made earlier: it all comes down to the economy. Dude's successful with it, no matter how everything else goes he will remain popular with the votes.
He's a fascinating character. Very underrated; I find him quite inspirational actually in terms of a positive Muslim figurehead and a charismatic role model

Turkey is also front runner when it comes to humanitarian work, case in point Somalia. Why don't these Western media folk ever talk about that.

As for critics of his new palace, Mr Erdogan said: “No one can prevent the completion of this building. If they are powerful enough, let them come and demolish it.”
That's no empty thread.. Lol

Do they allow palace tours, I wouldn't mind visiting
