You must be fully covered up. If your neck or hair is even shown, you will be harassed. You cant show anything but your hands and face

what...lol....is the taliban running somalia now. someone needs to westernize that place...im honestly scared of going now.
Somalis are conservative. This is the case of kilinka shanaad, Somali land, Puntland, Mogadishu, NFD. Ironically it is enforced the most in large cities like Mogadishu and Hargeisa

Djibouti is the exception

wow that f-king sucks...im not trying to get beheaded for showing an ankle....i really hope that somlalia doesn't turn into the carbon copy of saudi arabia in the coming years. freedom of choice is important.

Let us say for sake of argument a girl has not baaluq(boloog) but has started showing womanhood signs, should she cover?

This is my understanding, girls should start covering by the time they are reaching at age of 10 yrs old.

its better to be consertative all the time even when they younger but by takliif, is boloog by all scholars axcept saudis, who once their moral police beat 6 years old cause showing one hair!! some people have no respect to humanbeen in the name of religion. however, i am agains forcing any one to wear hijab bloog or not, that is me. my father doesnt agree it. lucklly, i dont have daughters. i would teach them islam and let them take their time.

i see here its costume than religion, and created whole society of shame/eeb than halal and haraam.

If your going to Hargeisa, you don't have to cover up. But at the same time you don't expose yourself too much. People would get the wrong expression.
But if your going to any other place in somalia. You have to cover up, people would tease you, and you will get a lot of criticism.

Also don't let people know you got money, because if they find out you do, then they would not leave you alone.
And last but not least don't ever drink their tap water, it not 100% safe.
LOL thank you for that info! :)

what do you mean by cover up tho?

what is considered acceptable and what is deemed unacceptable in both somalia and hargeisa?
the whole no pants thing baffled me the most lol.
What I meant by cover up is wear any clothing that cover your whole body, which is not tight. Also no trousers/pants.
For example you could wear dirac, cabaayad, dress, hijaab...
If your in Hargeisa you could wear whatever you want, as long as you don't go over the top.
That means no miniskirts, leggings...

My best advice would be for you to go and visit your families first, wherever they live. Then go to Hargeisa if you want to have a nice holiday. You would adapt to Hargeisa life much easier, it it more modern and westernized than all other cities in the somali peninsula. People would not judge you there, no one cares about anybody.
However in all other cities they have the same mentality. They believe everyone from the west is rich, so they would hustle you hard. And people would look at you like an outsider, they are more strict.

Even though I am originally from Burco, when I go back home, I spend most of my time in Hargeisa.
Oh and Hargeisa is more youth friendly, they have their own chillout spots. You could find weed, alcohol, sheesha...
and any other product you would find in the west. From Mcdonals to baby products, to female products....

Sheikh: agreed everything you said. I m normally liberal but when it comes to Diin I try to be conservative. Being said that, I also I also believe we should encourage them rather than forcing them to wear it.

But again when you are the father or ruler it is different,If i m not mistaken it is you who will be held in to account in the day of judgement.

brother, you are right, we always should encourage our kids, honest, truth, salat, good conduct etc. you teach them well but in the end is they will be judged themselves. if you did well your job while young, but once they boloog, the takliif is on them. you remember the story of propher nooh. he was preaching 950 for tawheed and sure didnt forgert his son and wife, but they choice to be with kufaar.

its not being liberal or not, its just give people/your kids time to reflect what you tought them all their life. ive experienced all kind of hijab/niqab wearing who are not different then any prostitues in my court!

i started to change how i look deen or being religious. we value, outlook matter of religion/ebadat, such, hijab, beard, salat in jama'a, memorizing quran etc , which is good thing to teach your kids. we ignore the spiritual and true connecting to God and conduct/akhlaaq. i found out much relious people who have bad akhlaaq with others. wahad moda in ebadadu only salat is gardeer or jalbaab iyo niqab.

i need to stop or i will be accused " kutobo 7oor" looool

Tog thank you so much! i didn't even know any of this ill definitely spend more time there...my fan is from mogdishu so ill check em out before i visit hergeisa, do they have nice beaches there?
also ill try to follow that dress code...its just going to suck having to wear an abaya at a beach lol.
i usually dress modest enough...some of my dresses maybe tight, or showing a lot of leg (which i assumes is a big nono) ill just go shopping before i leave.
