Thank you. I thought he was a pop literature writer. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that he's a classic author. He was quite good. I always find it difficult to read onscreen fiction that has not been broken into dialogue, but I've greatly enjoyed the first short story. I'll certainly mimic his style if I'm to pick up writing again.Have you read how to build a fire by Jack London..
I would love to read your short stories.![]()

Wlc to the forum and hope you enjoy your experience here.

So, you are from Kenya? NFD?I love writing, having grown up reading Barbra Kimenye's Moses . I am quite sure that many people who grew up in Kenya & Uganda must have read the Moses series. It must have been quite difficult for a woman like Barbra to put herself in the mind and body of teenage boys, and her writings were a great achievement.
I have adapted the same style, and my focus is on boys and their thought process. Boys of about 12 years. I've given some of my short stories to a few children that I meet with.
Are there people on Snet who love writing/reading short stories? I can share my first story here and you people can respond to it. Who's game?

Thanks Jalle, Nope - My Parents are from there but I grew up in different places. I've settled in Nairobi though.

When I was a kid in primary school, I remember reading about Moses and Mildred; is that one of her books?
Share your short stories with us, per favor

Hahaha..Basra. You're good....Manzi
A good romance story would start like this......
Chapter 1
'Did you hear Sheikh Abdullahi? Mama Khadra's son has arrived from Oxford, UK with a capital degree in Journalism." Sheikh gave his wife of twenty years one glance and went back to reading his newspaper. A government clerk, and his wife, the infamous owner of a small shop at Somali Mall are well known in the Minneapolis community. Not infamous because they each belong to a very shocking different qabils, but it is said their love was epic and notorious. She was the daughter of a famous Somali colonel, and he the son of a minor chief from Kismayo. He was Bantu slash Baajuun Caadkah, and she a Marehaan Darood woman. Her beauty was intense and bewitching even in her late 40s. They had three daughters who took her beauty, but added an additional quality that the mother did not posses- an uncanny grace in manners, and sophistication.
"Can you hear me--husband? Mama Khadra's son has arrived in town, I went last night and saw him with my own eyes. Oh what a beauty sir. He is tall, heavy eye brows, long, aquiline nose and the most softest beautiful dark madoow Xiindhi hair. I am telling you Abdullahi---I was instantly delighted with him. He is very well mannered too. A little bit reserved and quite, but that is natural, he is a man. OH dear husband. One of our daughters must marry him. I mean, why not? He is my own sisters son. Cousins marriage are the best in the universe, don't you --think zaki dear?"
Zaki, the eldest daughter, was too busy to listen to her mothers chatter, she was too busy giggling, and gazing at her smart phone, she was texting her childhood friend, whom she goes to college with, a handsome fellow but not of good family breeding. Geo is a Hawadley who is not light skin as they usually are, and although very well mannered boy, with exceptional intelligence, but his pedigree will not make Mrs. Abdullahi very convinced God forbid one day he comes to propose for her daughters hand.
"I see --like daughter and like Father-You - will ALL....ignore me. Well, continue to ignore me --- I will not rest, until Hassan Awil Baare has married zaki, Bella or my least favorite daughter- kambuli, although I highly doubt she will inspire him to marry her. I have the faintest suspicion kambuli will bring me a majeerten, for she hangs out with only mjs. Mjs with small, saan kusaan at that.Mostly of the Osman mahmood breed, you know the ones who breeded with their bantu slaves. Oh what nerves that will plague me if she does. Why couldn't she at least find a good nose in umar mahmood if she has to go that route? Anyway, what am I saying, God forbid my daughters to marry any mj--good nose or not. "
