A few years ago, the tax and registration office discovered some anomalies; of the newly registered dates of births, more than 50% had 1/1; a significant percentage had also the 26/6, 1/7 , 21/10. An investigative team was appointed to look into the issue and propose changes before the sytem crushed. They proposed that any somali who applies for asylum / leave to stay and who claims that he/she was born on those dates should be given the DOB at which the application is made; so, if you applied for asylum on the 21/3, your DOB will be 21/3.
