The moment an off-duty police officer accidentally shot himself has been captured on camera.
CCTV footage shows Darryl Jouett enter an elevator in Cincinnati with his wife, before removing his gun from its holster.
But this dude was trying to do too many things at once, and not doing any of them well. He was holding a bunch of stuff in his left hand, and keeping it steady, taking up part of his attention. He was talking to his wife, taking up more of his attention. Then it appears that he was attempting to transfer his pistol from a belt holster to the jacket pocket (BBC announcer is wrong in saying he was reholstering it) while trying to locate the jacket pocket (taking up part of his attention) and move the pocket flap out of the way (taking up yet more of his attention) he shifted the pistol to an unconventional carry position, with his index and middle fingers off the grip, the index finger attempting to keep the pocket flap raised.... bottom line, trying to do too much shit at once
