Why are Somali men so effeminate?

Wallahi I'm not exaggerating, but I have noticed that Somali men in general are quite effeminate. Specially those back home in Somalia and other African countries. Somali men back home show a lot of effeminate traits such as the way they talk, body language, walk and interact. What is makes it worse is that, Somali guys back home tend to be very skinny so their effeminate traits is made worse by their physical look. Even when you attend parties, they end up dancing like women. What the fuck is going on!!

Even Somali guys from the baadiyo or small villages show these effeminate traits, though they are a bit much better than their urban counterparts.


Tallow what is wrong with Somali males? Anyone else noticed this?

Well there are several traits of being feminine, and they tick other boxes that I have mentioned such as the way they:

-TALK
-WALK
-INTERACT
-BODY LANGUAGE


Also I do not consider grooming and having good personal hygiene as feminine trait, it might be perceived that way sometimes but it really isn't.

You clearly have never visited Somalia. Dude most Somali guys between 15-30 are as effeminate as fuck. Somali guys back home are not manly at all, they are either neutral or effeminate. Usually its the older guys that are neutral.

Listen I know ur a proud Somali and you defend us well. But sometimes we have to admit to our faults to correct them. Lets not be so defensive all the time. Besides this is our forum, not like non-Somalis will know our affairs.

I guess its the lack of testosterone in our diets, and our severe malnutrition. The question is, do you observe the same "effeminate" behavior amongst Somalis in Canada/USA? If not, then it's clearly due to the poor diet of the Somalis living in Somalia. And that can be fixed in some time inshaAllah

Well ur probably blinded to the facts. But Somali men back home are extremely effeminate. Been living here for 4 years and have experienced and come across many people.

Yes there is the possibility of diet being a factor or lack of testosterone or maybe it is just our general culture. Don't get me wrong, us Somalis can be really brave, yet we can be really effeminate too.

Homoeroticism isn't as well-known and prevalent in Somalia as it is in the West. Holding hands is practiced by many cultures in and reound the middle-east/South Asia. It is no more effeminate than hugging your friend. The Somalis I met in Somalia are far from effeminate. They're candid, provincial, tough and loud but I never got "naagood" vibes from any of them. Also quite clearly, they aren't effeminate since the word "naagood" is a derogatory insult. Therefore, they know what effeminate means, they just have a different definition.

Wallahi so true. I have nothing against their holding hands, since its a cultural practise. Some culture's might consider it weird, just like how Liquidhydrogen considers grooming and having good hygiene as a feminine or gayish trait others do not.

However you are right about how Somali men back home are extremely feminine, from the tone of their voice, the way they sit, the way they walk, the way they interact with you. They are extremely touchy which is totally a feminine trait, they gossip a lot and so on.

There is a long list of feminine traits these Somali guys have.

Also Somali men in the diaspora are also effeminate but not as much as their homeland counterparts. I think in general Somali men are not manly compared to other ethnicities, specially other African ethnicities since Africa is cradle of manliness. Even Ethiopians and Eritreans are more manly than us, though they are in the bottom list of manly people in Africa.

Those are mostly the geeljire men, and they are less effeminate than their urban counterparts, though they cannot be considered manly. Even the geelire portrays some sort of effeminate trait.

That is a stereotype. Just like people that believe gay people are feminine, you can find manly gays. Anyways all these things are descriptive, and different people have different opinions on what can be considered feminine or unmanly. You might consider two men holding hands normal whilst other might consider it weird and I might consider grooming normal whilst you might find it unmanly. Its all descriptive.

However there are others things that cannot be descriptive and is oblivious to the eyes. Such as, how a guy walks, talks and interacts/body language.
