This lady asked me for a ride today right after work. I wasn't going to that direction and I was waiting for a co-worker. Its snowing in my state and I feel bad that I told her I wasn't going there.

I did just the opposite today. I picked up a somaliman standing at the bus stop earlier today. Luckily he was going towards where i was headed

Was she somali?

That's not nice saaxiib. I have a rule. Always help people if they ask, but never ask for help yourself unless there's no possible way you can avoid it. Also, if I notice someone won't go out of their way in the ways I've done for them, then I stop being as helpful. I don't believe in the 'treat others as you would have them treat you' because that's incomplete. I go by the maxim 'treat others as you would have them treat you. But upon becoming acquainted with them adjust accordingly.' Otherwise you become a chump /nacas.

But I wasn't really going to that direction. Plus it's rush hour and I am hungry. Yes she was Somali but she was rude to me when I politely said I wasn't going her direction. And I still feel bad. I am not a mean person by nature and if I wasn't with someone else I would have done so. I will help out the next person that asks me.

The fact that it was rush hour and that you were hungry is the whole point. A favour that doesn't involve you sacrificing anything isn't really a favour nor true genorousity. And she got upset because we Somalis expect a fellow Somali to help us. It's a sense of entitlement which I think is well placed and good for our social cohesion. But you're a good person at heart since you feel bad about it. It's ok, you'll help the next person insha'Allah.

The opposite happend to me the other day, i was late for work and it was snowing...this complete stranger offerd me a ride.He was somali and i said No...haday gabadh ahaan laheyd waan raaciy laha laakin nin aan shaqo laheyn maxa baabuurkisa i galinaya.
