I am not in Mogadishu, but my information came from people who are more familiar with this security field and who traveled to Mogadishu and just came back last week. I conveyed here what they shared.No there isn't one checkpoint manned by AMISOM in Benadir or the Shabelles.

However, your suggestion that they are too scared to expose themselves is a hogwash. The whole existence of the Somali government is the presence of AMISOM forces, they are the ones who defeated Al-Shabaab, and here you are telling us they are too scared to expose themselves. Come'n, they have their bases in Xalane, Stadium Mogadishu, Ex-Control (the last I know), they used to be in Kaxda area but move away from it after complaints from Somalis nearby, in former 77 division head quarters / Xarunta Xooga. Burundians in Jaamacada Ummada, Dayniile, etc. They are in many places in and outside of Mogadishu.
The Ethiopians are incorporated among those AMISOM forces and attacks against the Government follow their movements. Somali intelligence agency is a joke and is heavily infiltrated by them. If guys outside know about it, how come the Somali government leaders don't know about it?

The only place you will find AU soldiers are inside the airport, inside the stadium, inside specific camps. You can ask anyone that lives in XAMAR if they ever got passed thru a checkpoint manned by the African Union men?
