Mar walba waxaan iraahaa; Soomaaliya Shaqo la'aani kama jirtee shaqo-yahan la'aan baa ka jirta.
As for this particular incident, locals really don't know how to paint.
Cali

Ina Adeer, have you ever met a Somali painter in the diaspora? We think driving cabs is more noble than painting or building homes because it involves skills and hard work.
I'm local sxb. But I would love to learn from a professional painter if I ever get the chance.

What is it with this myth that only Somali Bantu are willing to do manual labour in Somalia?

Those days are long gone due to urbanization many urban ethnic Somalis are doing manual labour as well because of the high youth unemployment in Somalia.

Ethnic Somalis doing xamaali far outnumber the Bantu doing that work.

I think it's very ignorant to say Somalis don't want to work. I think it's more of a case of lack of skills and training as well as the SFG bowing down to any foreigner's demands in order to secure AID. Just look at China in other African countries and how they only employ and import chinese to work for them. Are you saying manual labour like painting is beyond the scope of a Somali male adult?

What's that old saying? Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day...
LiquidHYDROGEN, if only you knew Soomaalida dhabeecaddooda. It's ceeb for them to paint for another family because taariiq ayaa looga dhigaa 'hebel iyo heblaayo ciddaan ayeey xamaali ama shaqaalo u yihiin/ u ahaayeen'. Mustaqbalka dhan ayaa sabataas looga xiraa cidhii xamaali cid kale u noqoto. Ninkaanna ma ogo inaa xooggiisa cido ay kuu faani doonto 'X maxey yihiin, guriyahey rinji noo marin jireen'.

Exactly. I personally know Somali carpenters, painters, electricians and plumbers and this is only in Canada. There are plenty of skilled Somali workers who should be hired and given well-paying jobs in preference to these
Habashis and Bantus who are living in our country.

My family built a house recently in Galkacyo and we hired Somalis to design and build and furnish our home. We don't need some Bantus doing our work for us

Excuse my English, it is 2nd language for me, but last I checked doing something efficiently meant skillful.
Add that to knowing the quality of different types of paints.

If you are an adult and cant paint well even in your first try..... you are useless.

Tons of skill required to paint? Watch an "expert" do it for 10 minutes and you'll be a professional

I didn't know Somalis are capable of doing 'real labor' jobs? Who would sashee cat walk for them? Hold their hips, both men and women, and cry slave job? :eat:

Lol bad analogy. It would make sense if you were talking about construction engineering or administration. Lakiin painting has a learning curve of about 5 minutes. I don't think the problem is that they can't do it. It's whether they 'want' to do it that's the problem.
