Each constituency gets to elect its representative. You get what you and your area voted for and party with the most constituencies gets the Prime Minister. That's the fairest election system in the world.

It's like that everywhere. :Puhlease:

Obama got 332 electoral votes and Romney got 206, but Obama didn't get 3/5 of the total votes, but the vote was 51.1 to 47.1, which is only 4% point difference.

Its only fair per area not number of votes because then each area might get a representative which did not even want to represent them and will not care about their needs as a community. Each area in the UK will have a different vibe, community outlook, economy, attractions, business model etc and so the MP needs to be a representative which they voted for directly and will represent their needs to Parliament. It would not be fair for someone to represent you at government level if their manifesto and leadership does not represent what you want for your community and what your community needs.

:o My dear majeerten gedo gurl----that makes sense now! The more constituencies a party has-- they get the prime minister. At first I thought, how can one single constituency elect a PM for the entire country? It didn't make sense. Well, it is like here in the United States--- the votings are in electorates; I guess equivalent of constituency of the British version. It doesn't matter if a present receives more individual votes, what counts is--the electorate. :eat:

Still UK elections and politics is messed up. Get rid of the aristocratic Lords house. As much I love aristocracy, I don't want them to be living in todays modern world. I want them in my History books so that I can escape. :dj:

LOL I'm Sade but the Daarood gene is a strong one!

Did you really think that a single seat controlled the election result for the whole country? If the leader of the party doesn't win the seat, he doesn't become Prime Minister. The number of seats is fully determined by the number seats won by voting alone and each seat represents an electorate.

The Lords are actually highly educated people and they do work....just not as hard as MPs do. Who should replace them?

The UK election system seems to reveal significant flaws in this election cycle. Whether it's issues with representation, transparency, or fairness, recognizing these concerns is crucial for a healthy democracy. It's an opportune moment to reevaluate and improve the electoral process to ensure that every vote truly counts and accurately reflects the will of the people. Open dialogue and constructive criticism are essential for refining our democratic systems for the benefit of all citizens. PM kisan status

The Brits have the unenviable distinction of being long considered the gun/ignoble of Europe, and the best form of "government" tailored specifically for nations of that particular stamp, is called the 4.5 power sharing quota system, which, incidentally, was invented by the most ignoble specie of "men"
