In the Middle East and North African cultures, especially within the nomadic tribes, as soon as the meher (nikaah) takes place, the bridegroom will take a white cloth with him and start bagging his new wife in a room. The bride's father is standing outside with a machine gun. The bridegroom will hold the white cloth below the women's ..... while he is beating it. He will then throw it over the fence towards bride's father. As soon as the blood-stained cloth is seen, a celebration will erupt and bride's father, her brothers, and cousins will put a massive celebrity gunfire. This celebratory gunfire is conducted because the bride has protected her honor and that of her family.

If the white cloth does not have a blood, the father, with his gun, will go to the room where his daughter (bride) is staying, and as soon as the groom comes out of the room, he will start shooting her dead.

This is how honor is preserved in that part of the world. A woman is vigorously expected to remain a virgin in order to protect the honor of the family, and if she doesn't, she is easily disposed. No woman can live within the community without maintaining the honor of the family, and her family can't live with that shame while she is alive.

They place so much importance on virginity when they should not. I think they should place more importance on respect and self worth rather than the hymen being broken. What if your daughter is virgin but she has engaged in other forms of sexual activity? She could be virgin and her hymen could be perfectly intact but she is free to blow a guy and no one will ever know because there is no way to test that. Young girls should be raised to value themselves better than to engage in immoral acts such as sex AND all things done as a prelude to sex rather than being told to remain virgin. If we tell them to remain virgin we are not addressing the thousand other bad stuff she could be doing and we could be implying illegal sex is the ONLY immoral act which a woman can do.

You know when you first read this it seems like the stupidest type of behaviour

But, it kinda makes sense. Why would you want naughty people with not good mentality in the military? Question is, how do they test naughtiness and not good mentality in their male recruits?

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying its widespread but it sure does happen.

I have also previously argued that a hymen is not a guarantee on all women as a minority lose it through sports or are not born with one.

I was just stating a preference for virgin brides and would feel that I was sold short if I was misled into thinking she was a virgin. Anyway, it is not a deal breaker as Allah knows waxan guursado iyo hadi guursado ba.

Honesty is the best policy.
