It's close to 5 million because Puntland included the Isaaq portions of Sool and Sanaag and the Hawiye portions of Mudug in their population estimate.

Of course Puntland would reject this report. Even the Prime Minister of the Somali Federal Government and the Director of the organization that was blamed for the population estimate ( Heritage Institute of Policy Studies) have all distanced themselves from it. However, I think the Puntland government is trolling Abdi Aynte here. Look at their estimate/table and compare it to the one he released.

Waryaa, if we went with scenario 2, that would mean the Waqooyi Galbeed population was severely undercounted.
Let's say Hargeisa is 980k as you calculated, adding in Berbera (150k) and Gabiley (60k) would give an urban population of 1.19M, approximately 387k more than what the report published. It would also mean the total population for Waqooyi Galbeed is 1,629,263 which is 20k shy of Banadir's pop

The problem with fadhi-ku-dirir kids is that they never reason as long as things don't confirm with their qabiil propaganda.

1st all, if I m not mistaken in this report they used the word "estimated". Second they clearly mentioned that satellite mapping was used which means we have not even used 4x4 cars and drove around.
Third: whether we like it or not this is what will be used for the time being until we can do a better one.
Fourth: have you travelled though the country? There r actually no people outside big cities even the south where they used to tell us it is bit populated, people have moved to urban areas.
