The Term Qaldaan

Postby Rambie » Tue Jun 16, 2015 1:04 pm

So,

We all know this concept describe the population of Somaliland, which means (wrong/mistaken)
But when did this word come up? And for what exactly it is used for? Is it because we have a different accent/patois?
Or may be because we try to breakaway from Somalia hence the term "Qaldaan" (mistaken)

It used heavily by southerns as an insult which I find it funny and cute.

Rambie,

In 2012 on a visit to Xamar, I walked in a coffee shop and told the waitress who seemed to be ignoring me, 'Naayee shaah lasoo caraar', she proceeded to give me a prolonged death stare an said, 'qaldaan waxid orod cadaabtaa aad ka timid ku noqo' and took 15 minutes to bring my tea. They are so sensitive, southerners like afka janada :pac:

I think (i'm not sure) this term began after abaarta dhabadheer in the 70's when many Dhulos, HJ & HY's were relocated down South.

I Think It Has To Do With The Accent Of The Northern Somali Clans ... As in when they speak they Call Things with different Terms ..

But Nowadays in Somalia People Dont Really Care If u Have An Accent, Especially in Xamar ... Cause There are Alot of Different Accents being used there wether its .. Bari, Waqooyi, Maay Maay, Mudug etc..etc

In the 80s and 70s, People from the north were not more socially open and they were some how conservative in their dealings. How they talk, how they walk and most of them were new to city life. They were going around to ask people qabil and no one knew what they were upto. So people invented this term to give them an excuse so people don't get offended. If your uncle comes from Hargaysa and talk shit, all you tell people is, waa qaldaan ee kaqaleeya. Qaldaan means people who make mistakes. They used to call gabdhaha Shuun, call their wives naayaahee and Their mother eeyaahee.

Why is it spelled with a Q?

Wrong should be khalad. So, I presume khaldaan should be the correct spelling.

The terminology basically is to emphasize something is missing. Something is Wrong. The Isaaqs as we know have their own eccentrics foibles. They are a different species of themselves. They talk funny, with very different & odd accent, use hand gesticulations that could be mistaken for a violence or a proposal of a duel, they insult Diinta---with "Diinta Waas" frequently-obviously shocking the usually religious conscious reer south Konfur. Not to mention, the word Qaldaan can sometimes be synonymous with alcohol. Isaaqs love their bottle. :stylin:

My friends , I hate to tell you this , but the superiority of the Northerner over the southerner is almost a universal thing .
When I look at the history of our "richer" brothers of the human race , the Europeans , one cannot ignore that fact .
Quick example , Great Britain , one of the greatest country on Earth , wonderful , civilized , learned ,cultured people why are they called English and not Saxons ? who's more northern is MY answer
Why do the Danes kept messing with the English ? Because they live North of the Angles
What made the Vikings think they could impose their ways to their more southern European neighbours ? Because of North again .
What saved the zomalis is the fact they have a peace loving northern clan .
Long live all the Northern people of any country no matter where they live
