Should fasting hours in Ramadan standardised globally?

Postby samatar133 » Sat Jun 20, 2015 3:54 pm

I really believe it should be standardised to 13 or 14 hours everywhere in the world, regardless what time sun rises or sets at different locations in the world.
Folks, do you agree that it is an overdue issue to be discussed and fixed by the Culima of Islam?

There is already one sheikh who produced a fatwa trying to fix fasting hours but he was just basing his understanding rather giving sources from Quran and Hadith.

Back to you? Why 14 hrs? Why not 6 hrs?

Atheists will use that against Muslims:

''See, Islam was fabricated by men who were unaware of the extreme daylight hours in some parts of the world''.... :|

That suggestion would never come up if Ramadan was in winter. Y'all need to stop and accept that some(we) have to fast 20 hours and others less. It is what it is.

6 hours is not fasting, it is like you having your breakfast and then lunch. Real and proper fasting should be at least 12 to 14 hours, the believer should feel real hunger. Its good for the health, even none believers should adopt this practice for heath reasons.

Why do you care? If I remember correctly, you told us that you're an atheist.

Longer hours = more xasanaat for us

The last thing I am worried is atheists and their opinion. No matter what you do, you are not going to convince them, so why bother what they have to say?
You don't need to prove anything to anybody, you believe in Allah and his final prophet and that should be enough. The nature of region itself is that it is unprovable in scientific terms, so debating with atheists or with other faith groups is pointless.

Robotic, sida aad u fahantay arinku maaha. Actually fasting during the winter in the northern or southern hemisphere , where you have to fast less than 10 hours defeats the purpose of fasting.

What's next? Should we standardize prayer times so we have Muslims praying Isha prayer at noon? Are people gonna be praying Asr prayer in the middle of the night?

Seriously, get your shit together.

That's what I was under the impression of as well. However, I like things as they are. I will concede that in order for the body to truly fast, it must go a minimum of 12 hours without food. This is called intermittent fasting, and its said to have health benefits. I actually like the long hours here though.

Fasting can actually improve a cell's mitochondrial energy efficiency and protect against free radical damage/ oxidative stress. Just try not to stuff your face with the same stuff you're detoxifying your body of (fried food and plenty of processed sugar). It's somewhat counterproductive. To each his own though. :stylin:

Also, we're not living in the same time-zone, so just deal with the cards that you're dealt.

It is of course a great benefit, but we don't fast for that reason. If you do, your fast is nullified. You need to be really careful about your intentions.

I wish Muslims would stop banging on about these long fasts. It is misleading! If you counted your fast from the time you normally have breakfast like 9 or 10 or 11 etc then your fast shrinks from 18 hours to 10-11 hours. Do not count the hours you are asleep in bed as "fasting" .

Afkaaga caano lagu qabay, waa sidaa aad tidhi. And myself, I prefer longer hours to shorter winter hours laakiin fasting beyond certain number hours has no health benefit especially for elderly and physically weak people.

Ismaciil, war ilaahay ka baq bil ramadaan baa lagu jiraaye, sawta shaydaankii la xidhay, adigu shaydaanul insi baad tahay?
