To my understanding, the sole reason for having kids is for them to help you when you grow old and cannot help yourself. Kids in the west do not believe its their responsibility to take care of you. If you get old, you go to nursing home and use your social security money till you die. They will then take you out of the nursing home when you die and burry you. So whats the point of going through all that hard work for them just to have them go about their business when they grow old. I would suggest either take your kids to africa to grow up there or have kids there at all. Waa qasaaro fawqal qasaaro.

You will have good kids if you raise them the way Allah intended. Somali people need to make Islam and our culture the bedrock of bringing up children.

The children with the best characteristics live in homes where parents are aware of Islamic values, serious about establishing them and attentive to protecting them from the dangerous influences of the Western culture. It appears, that those children who are worst, live in homes where parents are neglectful in any of these aspects, often expecting they will have Islamic personalities later on. Sadly, such children generally adopt the personalities of the people they mix with from the Western society.

If you think taking your kids to Africa will make any difference then I got some bad news for you son. Its pretty much the same there. Parents from the US, UK, Canada, European countries and even folks from Australia have gathered to send their kids to Africa. Once they're all there, its pretty much the same environment they had in the west, except they have more freedom (legally too, kids drive on major roads with rented cars at 14-15 years old, no license). So it won't make a difference. What's going to make the difference is the amount of effort you put into bringing up these kids, nourishing them, and guiding them. The amount of effort and work you put into anything in life (i.e your kids, your education, your health) will proportionally reflect on the results and success you'll get from it.

Yet sadly most of these Somali parents never figured that out.

Truer words have never been spoken

Somali parents in the US/Canada/Europe should be very careful on how they should raise their kids. It would be ideal to send your children to a private Islamic school, where they could be instilled with the rights values and character.

However, since private Islamic schools are unaffordable to most Somali families, then we should create after-school tutoring programs, duugsis, and weekend programs so that these Muslim kids could associate with each other, learn about their deen, and help build better character. Toronto alone has 10% of it's population being Muslim. That's a good 600,000 people (the size of Bosaso) and it would give us a better ability to pool our resources and create these programs.

I have seen Somalis who were born and bred in the west who not only have good heads on their shoulders but also have close ties to their Somali culture than the FOB Somalis gangster wannabees thugs with sagging pants all the way to their knees. Its not where you raise your kids, its how you raise your kids, don't make the environment the scapegoat, and please cease this stupidity at once child!

Why do you think asians in general suceed in school and have relatively non existent crime rate! They love they're culture & promote it and put tiresome effort into putting sweat tears and money into their kids to come out as a healthy products that reflect on them the parents.

Environment can be critical factor only when the parents let it be and fail at their job!
