Smart phone users come in

Postby WaaliCas » Thu Jul 09, 2015 6:50 am

Do you close open apps or windows?

Share your experiences.

Some claim by shutting them down you save on battery. Others disagree.

Click on the double window button on the lower left (android/samsung), then click the X sign). Closes everything.

Yes, it does extend the life of the battery and enhance the performance of the smart phone depending on the spec.
Unnecessary apps that run in the background consumes power + RAM, it is better for your phone to be closed but
there is a draw back. Once you remove that app and press it/start it again, it will take a bit longer to open because
it is not on standby anymore. The positive outwight the negative, especially if you left you phone on standby for a long time
or play/use heavy, demanding apps.

Du is a great app that works fine with me. I would advise you to download it.

Android dev here: Using multitask button to close apps doesn't always save battery. It depends on how app was developed.

Sometimes it means same thing as pressing back button. Sometimes it means any background process from that app is closed down.

To fully close the app down: Go to settings and find a list of running/background apps then select 'force stop' button for every each app.

I rarely actually close apps. Like ^ I press back back back and that usually closes apps, or I don't bother.

Cool peeps.

So I went to Apple the other day to pick up new hands free. They wanted to test the audio. While I was shutting the apps down, a nerd from Apple goes to me here is little tip. You shouldn't close them. I asked why not. He said to me shutting them down is like pulling the plug on your computer. You should just ignore them the phone closes them automatically and saves energy actually by keeping it there so next time you need it, rather than open it which is like rebooting ur system, it just pops it back up from say #5 to being active.

In short he said Apple recommends you don't shut em qnd even battery wise in the long term its better.

End of me and the Apple nerd. I didn't know that but I hate seeing 5-10 apps on my screen.

^ He might be right, my advice was based on Smart phones operating on Android system. I have no Idea about I phone. It depends really, if you had a relatively powerful phone with high spec, it won't make much difference with you because it can handle it easily on the expense of power consumption. I remember my first smart phone I bought it years ago. I was ignorant about these things so I bough a weak Samsung smart phone. This trick of closing apps and freeing ram was useful sometimes but boy it was a piece of shit. I regret wasting my time and putting much effort into it.
