I have a question about Islam. I need answers.

Postby Idman702 » Wed Aug 12, 2015 2:28 pm

Salaam guys.

Growing up I had a best friend which I still do btw. We used to have sleep overs and I would go over to her house quite often because she was an only child and her house was quiet compared to mine. Anyways her mom was somewhat religious.

I remember her mom telling us to not smell the food or if we smelt or put our nose near the food we should kiss it because Islam teaches us not to smell our food, keep in mind I was around 8 years old at that time. And she also told us to kiss the Quran if we accidentally dropped it.

My question is does everyone do this because my family certainly does not do this.

My family certainly doesn't do this either. I've never heard of this practice before.

Whenever my nose investigates my food, I catch myself kissing it, then I laugh at myself,

My mom always told me to not smell the food too sometimes even hitting me.

I always thought it might contaminate the food, because particles might drop in it.

I checked islamqa out and it seems it was true.

Never knew their was a Islamic background to it. Interesting. Thanks. JazakAllah Khayran for asking the question.

I heard people saying not to smell food because it is rude and "unhygienic" Do I have islamic evidence to back up it? No.
Also I heard kissing the Quran when it is dropped - same- no Quran or Hadith to back it up.

I doubt it is an Islam thing. For me--what is Islam should strictly come out of the constitution book. Excuse me, I mean--The holly Quran! Period!

Idman---growing up--I --too was indoctrinated with that, till today-- If I smell- food-- I feel guilty. Also -no eating in the restroom. No showering if u eat food. The worst is--do not say bless u to a Gaalo if they sneeze. I purposely--reject that. I will say--bless u to anyone --gaalo or muslim who sneezes--God created all of us--it is upto God to judge! :)

Thegurdian: that's why I asked here, I couldn't find a correct answer.

Basra: the no showering after you eat is also weird to me, even the waiting 30 mins to swim after eat. Tbh I don't say anything to non Muslims when they sneeze I pretend I didn't hear them and I occupy myself with other things.

I always say bless me when I sneeze around them, Loooool.

Those terms didn't exist in Muslim society pre 911. They are words made up by media to divide muslims. The one closer to Allah is mostly reffered to as practicing or fundamental.

Btw shouldn't all Muslims be practicing? If not, are you really a muslim?

Food for thought my brother

Kissing the Mus-haf after dropping it or for whatever reason has no religious background whatsoever, there's nothing wrong with doing it and there's nothing wrong with not doing it. Not smelling food though is a thing due to hygiene reasons, Roble provided a great link for that question.

Gaaladu waxaa laga yaabaa in ay aflagaado ka dhigayaan (Waaba siday u badan tahaye), lkn anaga waxay noo tahay ammaan.

Practising muslim as opposed to faasiq/caasi (Don't have their English words).

Fundamentalist = Usuuli (Also Conservative)
Maxaa kuu soo haray, religious as opposed to irreligious.

Waaba ammaan ayaan is leeyahay haddii kalmadahan laguuugu yeero.

Its a cultural thing, not a religious if I remember correctly.
