Somalis and Arab Music

Postby EvolSyawla » Sun Aug 30, 2015 2:22 am

When I go to xaflads, why do I always see that people need to play arab music? When dhaanto or other Somali tunes are played, guests seem restless or bothered. When someone puts on an Arab song (even one as old as Sidi Mansour) everyone gets up to dance, as if they have something to prove?

All the women complain for Arab music and feel you're not cultured enough unless you dance to music that isn't Somali? All the 'stylish' Somalis only got up for the Arab tunes.

As someone who is actually half Arab, I find this to be very embarrassing. I am Somali by nature; why do people (everyone in the room was full Somali!!) who have nothing to do with Arabnimo other than diintoda feel that they are better for associating with a culture that isn't their own?

All of these are rhetorical of course. I know why. But it doesn't eliminate the feeling of unease.

They might be Reer Caasir, used to hate them when I lived in ME. Never seen a more effeminate bunch of Somalis in the world.

I've been to lots of weddings, xaflads and events. I have never heard arabic music. It must be a North American thing. You guys are always running away from being somali, ffs I've even seen some American xaliimo wearing a sari on her wedding day :snoop:.

What's wrong with wearing a saari on your wedding day?

I'd get dressed twice, mar rocking a white elegant dress, ka dib I'd change into a slick, green saari.

I've actually attended few aroos where they jammed to Arabic tunes lakin, It's always right at the end. Normally as soon as the wailing sound of "Ya habibiii" Comes on, that's me out. Allow that. >>>

Welcome back evol :rose:

Most somali weddings are cringeworthy waleee. Aroos 6 bilood ama sanad ku dhow laga soo shaqeynayeey oo isku dhax yaacsan maa aragteen :mindblown: ciil baa ku qabanaya. Dhibaatada arab music un kuma koobna. :snoop:

Maamul daro waxaa uu dheer ragga videoga arooska ku mirqaama. RIP to those xalimos that wear see-through diracs.
When the camera light hits that dirac, indhahaada uu nax. :pac:

What about the white dress that most Somali girls where? That has nothing to do with our culture but Somalis seem to think it's OK to wear it. :?

I personally don't live for other people and their opinions so I'd wear what I want to wear.

The aroos with only women and no music without a doubt is of more khair but the lil shaytan on my left shoulder tells me to go all out and turn up since you only get married once. (Unless you're a fanaanad and you get married like 4 times)

Mahadsanid Bella :rose:.

Inayah

You will probably be too stressed whilst others enjoy or criticise the event at your expense.

Furthermore, if it is a mixed wedding, it could result in people with loose morals hooking up with each to make the beast with three backs.

Simple wedding and a long honeymoon in a far away tropical island (Maldives) that serves Xalal food is more my cup of tea.

The Caribbean or the Pacific (Tahiti) would be ideal too but Xalal food is a deal breaker. I mean part of the allure of a holiday is binge eating and that cannot happen in many non-Muslim holiday destinations.

I don't condone the white wedding dress either but clearly that's a case of apples and oranges. The white wedding dress is worn by everyone on the planet. 99% weddings have a bride and groom in western clothing like suits and dresses. That's true from America to Jordan to China. Lakiin nobody outside of south asia wears a sari to a wedding. It's as retarded as a somali wearing a kimono as a wedding dress.

It's good that you care little about other people's opinions, that doesn't make a Somali woman wearing a sari on her wedding day any less cringeworthy or retarded..
