Investment Banking and consultancy Student ADVICE

Postby mahoka » Tue Sep 15, 2015 4:27 pm

First i hope the mods make this thread sticky

For those students seeking career in finance

This is advisory thread to all somali students, if you are a student in the UK (useful for Europe and north america too) or if your sibling, children cousins etc are in year 13, first uni year or second year etc.

Investment banking has 3 section you can say,

Front office (hardest to get into, the highest paying, the longest hours and example SALES and trading) this is really what everyone is looking to get into

middle office (includes risk management, financial control, corporate treasury. you can say it is below the Front office (FO)

back office( support role like IT)

average graduate salary is £45 (plus bonuses)

As we speak applications for spring week applications have opened for all, in fact they opened in early September and will close at end at January (you should send your application by November to stand a chance). For this you need a CV, Cover letter and verbal, logical, numerical reasoning tests. Then interview. lets say you get in now, this will help you latter on (summer internship in second year of 3 year course)

please dont put dumb things on cv, be realistic because they will probably ask you what is on your cv if you make it to the interview. if you also want to apply, keep practising those mentioned tests, visit free websites (i will post later)

they take applicants from all unis but they have target unis

targets:
oxbrige, imperial, LSE, ucl, WARWICK

semi targets:
Edinburgh, Bristol, Manchester, durham, st andrews, Birmingham, KCL, London city (cass)

these are the jobs jews, asians, those from middle to upper middle class aim for, please if you know somali students who are doing well, ask them to consider these careers, if they are your kids/younger siblings force them. sad thing is i have yet to see a somali at these events.
pm if u need anything

If anyone is 16 or 17 please search work experience at banks which will look good on ur cv and your ucas application form

if anyone is younger then 16, please work hard, 2000 application per 80 places for some courses at top unis, We are talking about As and A* at GCSE and AAA at a level.

This is a toxic field. Don't pursue a career in this.

Investment Banks are nothing but glorified scammers.

This is a good thread. I also doing this. I am in my 3rd month with new broker. Building my experience as trader to join a hedge fund in Minnesota in about 3 year experience. That is my end goal.

I started Afisoone 5000 cent investment company back in July 2015. I hope January report will be another 500 cents.

That is what I will advice to anyone to trade by nature in order to accomulate your day job earning more...

Go to day job and invest your savings.. That is my rule after July 2015...
I advice any one ...
