^ Incognito, That seems good salary. Is the knowledge applicable to other areas other than Petroleum Engineering? I think it is better to study something that has many applications, something you can transfer if one job market gets tight.

Six figure income within 5 years from Uni? Be realistic, that almost never happens. Especially not to Blacks. Whitey will underpay you even with a degree.
Which is exactly why a black person needs to choose a career in Science and Engineering, or any work that requires a skill set many don't have in society. Another crucial component to career choices is passion, you have to have passion for what you like to do for work. There will always be people who will undermine you regardless.

PS: This six figure salary, how do you define it?
Petroleum engineering master degree starting yearly salary $80,000 -$100,000
They rather hire a White or Chinese over you lot.

Most young girls don't know how to cook. 25 year plus old cajuuzo who doesn';t know how to make Malawax? Saddest state of affairs man.

But living your life based on what people think of you, or how they would potentially treat you is not a way to exist. You are the Son of Adam and no human has anything above you really. Also, if you are the type who believes in Destiny, there is no stopping to what God has written for you on your book of life. Worrying about others is not a way to exist. When I applied for my current job, the stakes were high, but I didn't let negative thoughts bother me and prevent me from applying and showing up for an interview. Out of many applicants, I got the job, and I promise you, I was the darkest among them. Rarely blacks do what I do for work anyway.

Who cares what people would do saxib? You do your part for yourself and do what makes you happy in life.

Another crucial component to career choices is passion, you have to have passion for what you like to do for work. There will always be people who will undermine you regardless. No one should pay attention to those folks. I help people like that even when I know they hate me because I am far superior to them and more educated.

Great post, QuantumSatis. If you're a one of those paper pusher types with the generic business degree and bring nothing to your company other than filling your seat with farts and building simple spreadsheets in excel that can easily be automated any year now, then of course you're going to be underpaid. IMO, you should be happy your getting paid at all. However, if you're one of a handful of researchers at an outfit working and designing the next generation of integrated circuits, you won't be underpaid. Why? Simple economics. If you're being underpaid, a competitor will give you a better offer and this process will continue until you are actually being paid what you are worth.

I wouldn't restrict this to just the sciences and engineering, because that stuff isn't for everyone. All you need to do is graduate in a professional field or a field that has a relatively high demand. If you're competent at your job and thus get promotions, then the standard salary trajectory should at the very least put you very very close to 6 figures if not beyond it after 5 years.

Yes brother if you take chemical engineering as a bachelor and petroleum as a master.

All I'm going to say is that this is not at all the case in my experience and the experiences of everyone else I know.
