Forgetting a language/skill/knowledge you once knew/had - do you care?

Postby BVSNet » Sun Oct 18, 2015 4:36 am

Apparently not caring is a terrible thing :| Shows a general disregard for your memory :|

Isn't that such an over the top point of view or do you agree?

When I was young I used to speak Arabic, Kiswahili and a bit of French. I was not good in Somali by then. Now I have forgotten Arabic quite a lot and Kiswahili I hate it  so I never cared whether I forgot it or not. The reason being, I was not using these two languages most of the times. At home we were only speaking English and Somali. I improved my Somali now. Alxamdulillah.

PS: French is totally gone

I couldn't learn it fast enough, so eventually I gave up on it and purposely lost what I have learnt. I speak a broken one now, only when I want to though

 I sucked at it when I was in school, learning it and doing exams in it so it's no wonder that I remember very little now. It doesn't even bother me

I used to know how to solve for moles and stuff in Chemistry, now I'd have to google it. When the homo erectus was around, where and what tools they used....

 maybe it's about knowing what you don't know that's the point and not actually remembering every single fact that enters your mind

I do.

Taas wax dhici karo maaha. Hada kabacdi waa in aad af Somaali ku qortid markaad forumka soo geshid.

To be fair all you have to do is not skip over it when someone posts in Somali. Don't skip over the article that's in Somali and you'll be okay

Maybe it's a conspiracy to make all our brains useless at remembering stuff

I do mix Arabic with Amharic sometimes, as I did when I was giving an interview to an Arabic channel, luckily the host didn't notice.
