we have more diversity now! before people where culturaly and religious people, hence qof kasto 5 salat tokada used to called sheikh.

now we have deversity even in the same groups. you see people who practice religion and have enough knowldege but at the same time very modern (hence me  ), people who so strick/extreame to the point they scare me.lol

Also majority are practising their own ways, hence deversity.

Lodoon, I've noticed this as well. I have a theory that the middle and upper classes of Somalia pre-91 were mostly wiped out with a few families escaping to the west/gulf countries before the war happened. I think most Somalis alive today are overwhelmingly from the reer miyi/lowly class of Somalia.

My family escaped the country long before the war. We were being hunted by Said Barre's regime because of our involvement with prominent SNM leaders. Same with most of my extended family.

I have some Reer miyi relatives and when they tahriibed, you can see an obvious difference in culture between them and us (I'm talking about from a Somali point of view). The Somalis who migrated to the west in the 70s and 80s are very different to those who came in the early 90s.

What I observed and saw is that many Somalis and especially the youth who came to the diaspora for the last 5 to 10 years are more industrious than those who were here for longer periods. They will perform any kinds of jobs unlike their counterparts who instantly want to become millionaires through scams or illegal narcotics trade. They came with a clear idea and their aim is to save money and pool their resources together which enables them to start a business they have in mind back home, or from their host refugee countries. All the other stuff mentioned above is irrelevant because their intention is to create wealth for themselves and employ more Somalis.

Before 1991, people were moral but mosques were empty. After 1991, people are immoral but mosques are packed.
