I think major reward for telling the truth is giving yourself a piece of mind. Lies hurt everyone, both the person telling and the person being told even if the damage is not obvious immediately. Mostly mental agony. With that said, to withhold some truths and not tell them when that act is more beneficial is actually good. Be truthful doesn't mean be rude for example.
You can't tell someone some truths that hurt their feelings. Like a person who asks how do I look? If you don't like their looks, it would be rude to tell them you don't excite me etc. You can make suggestions instead. It is predicament of sorts, but being polite is always the right thing to do even if that is holding back some truths in your heart. Don't tell unnecessary truths that won't make you a liar if you didn't tell hem.
Just thought to make a distinction.
