Devious and tenacious people these japanese.
Do you now that in the 70's the Japanese decided to enter the commercial aircraft market,
this was when they started dominated many areas.
Their colonial master the US forced them to scuttle these plans, they also forced them shelve space technology as well.
What happened was that Brazil, Argentina and Indonesia where on the same level as Japan in these areas.

What did they do?
They used the oblique approach, by not attacking the problem head on, i.e attacking form the sides.
They focused on mastering the components necessary for the aircraft industry and by spending a fortune developing its F-2 fighter with US technology.
Today Boeing, McDonal Douglass, and the majority of US defense giants are totally dependent on Japanese components ,
componenets that they cannot build at home with the proper quality and price.
They have captured the European market.

The situation is so bad right now strategically its a major threat to the US power,
imagine if the US wants to go to war, and its a long war lasting months, and at the same time a major earthquake hits OSaka.
It will take weeks if not months to resume production of critical parts and its transport to the US.
This will ground allot of US airforce, and the navy will be short of missiles.

Damn Gurey, i never looked it from that perspective, it makes sense.

If they were allowed to build Airplanes back then, they would have probably surprised Boeing and Airbus by now.

I heard China is building its own civilian aircraft.

AIrbus and Boeing would be bankrupt or surviving on government subsidies today if the Japanese were not stopped in the 70's.
They were only delayed 40 years though, because the future of Commercial aircraft will be dominated by Japan, and the new Russo/Chinese project.

Both China and Russia need the planes and will buy 100's.
This is the main aim.

the jet they have in mind needs 4 engines instead of the 2 like the 777 but will do the same.
They will get an international market as well, because they can provide a better price with better contracts
breaking the duopoly.

Just the chinese and russian market is enough for it to be a success.
