Urko Sanchez designs a car-free village for children in Djibouti - SOS Children Village

I wonder what our resident Mr. Vienna (aka LiquidCalacaal) will say about these designs

The design team sought to understand housing in similar cultural and climatic environments, before basing their plan on three key principles. firstly, it was essential that the development formed a safe environment for children, with no cars permitted inside. Consequently, this allows the scheme’s narrow streets and squares to become constant places of recreation. Secondly, it was decided that there should be plenty of open space, with public and private areas clearly defined. Finally, the team wanted to integrate natural vegetation, with inhabitants encouraged to take care of their own plants and trees.

I love the clean lines, rooftops, the sand coloured exterior, location & overall simplicity, only issue i have is with the windows...small, ugly & plasticky.

8/10 for me.

Mashallah it's amazing!
The only draw back is the small scale/structure for an adult.

Cherine, it a safe village for kids. Windows + kids is a dangerous mix.

first of all i did not recognized any of the landscape as djibouti city and then i read a bit further it is tadjoura (north of djibouti) the afar city.
Tadjoura which is soon to be joined with the rest of Ethiopia with it is highway and train links.

As of djibouti city where most of the somali lives the humidity is so unbearable that a claustrophobic design will make it unbearable to live.
Small windows, concrete roof top etc ...

as of tadjoura.
As long as long the afar keep the somalis at bay, i hope they could start to build their city from dust to something marvelous
