Normally when I notice they are overstaying more then planned I don't entertain them. I take my kids to the bedroom and chill. My husband is very direct and normally says something like this but in a polite way:
" haye, biri maalin shaqo waaye, kheyr iyo barako..
Soo dhawaada hee.. And they normally get it

Or he can say something like
Susu, ilmaha kale seexi hee biri lixda ayaan kacaa, loud enough for them to hear and get the message
