Have Ajuuran ever confront the Portuguese empire? According to the map, they're neighbors.
Yes but the conflict was mainly between Portugal and the Sultanate of Oman, who ran all kinds of businesses and trade along the eastern Africa coast from Mozambique all the way to Somalia (the south). It's main commodity was slave trade. The Portuguese also involved in slave trade to meet demands in the Americas came to the region.

Somalia/Ajuran aided the Omanis but they were not the leaders of the conflict. Back then Sultanate of Oman was quiet a power.

In the South the Omanis and Ajuran on one sided combated with the Portuguese and the Gallas (Oromo) on separate fronts.

In the north (Djibouti, Somaliland and parts of Somali Region), the locals under Adal/Ifat Islamic Empire combated the Christian Abyssinia.

There were as many Muslim Habesha on Adal side as Somalis. There was no nationalism or ethnicity back then. The two Somalis of north and south had no direct political or economic contacts. There was no south role in the wars against Abyssinia but Siad Barre tried to add that to their factious history.

After the wars, many Habesha Muslims who fought for Adal, decided to stay on the land while Afar, Somalis and others had returned to their original regions.

That continued well into until 1960 when SL and Somalia briefly merged to form Somali Republic, which later was renamed The Somali Democratic Republic under the Revolutionary Council of Maj. General Mohamed Siad Barre. That was the only time the two ever had a union and it was short lived.

This explains the social and attitude difference in the two as well as cultural. It is no different than Eritrea and Ethiopia.

Zeila holds significance for some communities in the north. Mogadishu was larger and wealthier for much of the last millennium. Mogadishu with it's location, climate, industry, population and most importantly potential for growth and ability for sustenance; it therefore has a much better case for being made a capital.

This Hawdian guy is a funny character walahi. He is asked about Ajuuraan and Portuguese Empires and he starts talking about Xabashis. why must you insert focking Xabashi into everything.
Have Ajuuran ever confront the Portuguese empire? According to the map, they're neighbors.
The Portuguese were the world's super power and were plundering the major world cities in the 1500s. They plundered the Indian, Arab, Chinese and Swahili cities. Tristão was sent to the East African coast and he took the Swahili coast from Kilwa to Lamu with ease. He then wanted to take Ajuuraan cities. The Portuguese plundered and burned Barawe but failed to occupy it since they were quickly removed. Tristão's dumb ass went for Muqdisho since it was the richest city in East Africa completely underestimating the strength of the Ajuuraan. After what had happened in Barawe the Ajuuraan army regrouped and were waiting for him in Muqdisho. Tristão's soldiers refused to go with his stupid plan of attacking Muqdisho so he avoided it and headed for Socotra instead.

Also, after a while the Portuguese tried to attack Ajuurans again but with the support from the Ottomans they became the first African empire to engaged in naval battle with the Portuguese. They defeated the Portuguese in Naval warfare making them most powerful empire in Africa.

For the next few decades Portuguese always tried to attack the Ajuuraans but they were always defeated. They were powerful enough to even attack the Portuguese empire along with the Ottomans and free Swahili and Arab cities that were under the Portuguese empire in 1580 but the Portuguese took those cities back after sending massive fleets from India and other parts of the world to push the Muslims out of these cities. They successfully removed Ottomans and Ajuurans from the Swahili cities but they avoided attacking Muqdisho or any other Ajuuran city. This made the Ajuuraan successfully win the war against the Portuguese who were the most powerful empire in the world at that time.

The Ajuuran took many Portuguese prisoners so that's why many people claim some Cad-Cads are decendants of these war captives.

This wikipedia article on the empire is pretty well written. I suggest you read it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajuran_Sultanate

You are better at Xabashi history than Somali History. The Cumanis controlled Muqdisho in the 1800s right before the colonial period while that map was from the 1500s at the height of the Ajuuran Empire,

InaXassan,

Read the title of the topic again son. That naag is claiming Zeila was the capital of "Somalia" when the south never past Galkacayo from 13th century to the late 19th century.

Therefore we must correct this Wanlawein contaminated history where they try to inject themselves into Adal and the wars between them and the Abyssinians including Ahmed Gran as their own.

That factious history has been busted and the south always lived under the Omanis, Ajuran and later the Italians.

There never was any time where they had any role in the north.

They never encountered with the Abyssinians. Never. In 1963 under the Union Egal government got them involved with the Ethiopians.

And yes Somalia was a colony and dumping ground for Oman. That's how all the Bantus got there. Oman used to drop them there and take the sold ones across the ocean.

Also, the Ajuuran Empire made it experience a golden age making it the richest city in the Indian Ocean. The Portuguese tried to take it but were defeated many times by the Ajuraans. After the Ajuurans the Geledis took it then the Cumanis and then finally Italians making it the capital of Somalia.

Actually I can go as far and say Muqdisho is the greatest Somali city in our history
Geledis never controlled Muqdisho. It was the Hiiraab imamate that defeated the Ajuuran's.
it was Galmaax Yoonis Empire that did Majority of the Fighting,6 centuries later, still going strong.

Hargeisa is fairly new, from being a small hub to the greatest somali city!

Even after 1988 ;)

All thanks to one political entity :sland: .
