It seems the term "Somalian" is offensive to Somalis, I want to know where the term "Somalian" came from.
Somali = ethnic. Somalian = nationality. Correct or not?

No such thing as Somalian.
Somali = Single, describes 1 person.
Somalis = Plural, describes more than 1 person.
Somalia = The country's name.

Westerners not knowing the differences called us first and some of us run with it..majority of peoples country names ending on 'IA' as in the case of Romania are defined as -ians..romania italia algeria nigeria..
but somalia does not follow that sequence because unlike the others the term Somali is older than term somalia meaning the actual country has been named after the people.. rather than many countries where people have been named after the country name...
somali is older than somalia as in the case of english being older than england..therefore english would never be compromised for England due to historical significance..same law applies to somali and somalia..the term somalians has been used by people that do not know the name of the people that reside in some of the horn of african nations
We are somali who live in several countries in the horn of africa

Somali is ethically through language and religion or simply a language.
Somalis is incorrect plural form of somali that is only used by the backwards diaspora who always say walahi in every sentence.
Somalian any one who is from zomalia basically a nationality.
The only correct plural form of somali is somalida iyo soomaaliyeed.
Revolutionary you are correct these zoomalians can't tell left from right.

Hi Mr Revo,
The difference between Somali and Somalian is very straight forward.
Somalian is the citizen of Somalia while Somali is an ethnic or the language they speak.
The Somalians of Somalia however do not like it because they want to sneak into Somaliland, Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti using the ethnic card.
On the bases of citizenship and nationality/statehood, Somalian is someone from Somalia.
Can you imagine saying all Tigringya speakers in Eritrea were Tigrais? Somali is the language spoken by people in the Horn but not necessarily the same people in the same manner Kebessa is not son of Abay Tigray.

Somali or Somalian is fine with me. I remember (pre the Somali civil war) being called Salamian by kids and adults who never heard Somalia and mistook it to be called Salamia. We are now famous for all the wrong reasons.

Just like Awrastaale said...Somali...= ethnicity. Ethnic Somali.
Somalian...= citizen of Somalia. That's ethnic Somali as well as other ethnic groups that live in Somalia.... they are all Somalia citizen and called Somalians.....but not everyone is a Somali. An Afar, oromo, bantu and cadcad that are citizen of Somalia are Somalians, but they are not and cannot be SOMALI!
But Somaliland is something else.
Are the people in Somaliland all Somalilanders?
What about none Somalis that live in Somaliland?
