When I was a teen, I once had a job as a xamaal, loading and unloading trucks. I wasn't very much into it from the go and only went for it because some of my high school buddies did the same. It's a huge warehouse with a bunch of xamaals working in pairs...Everybody's paid a fixed rate per hour. I was paired with this old Jamaican dude who went about it to get his work out on...This nig had the gloves, the weightlifting belt, the gym sweat pants. Me, I am nonchalantly picking a small box here and there while this donkey's carrying on like he's back in the plantation with an overseer's whip licking his back. He's running up and down the ramp, leaning a way from the weight of an armful of boxes each time. After a while, the man starts giving me huruuf when we're crossing paths because he rightly gets the impression that I'm being lazy. When we got a break, he went and complained about me to the supervisor, that I wasn't pulling my weight. They took me to the side and asked me to pick up the pace a little.

The 2nd day on the job was particularly busy and there was a lot of freight to be dealt with. When I got there, I told one of the supervisors that I could only stay until 8:00 as I had school in the morning. The man agreed at first but when I later went to him to punch me out, he started dithering, which annoyed me a little...couple that with the fact that they had me paired up with a machine and expected me to keep up with it, I said, fuck this thing and quit on the spot. I got about $140 for my toil and spent it all in a single day.

What were some of your responsibilities? I didn't know muslims had funeral homes...Don't they bury people right away over there?

yes skippa, they prefer right away, or the same day, some times next day, they need to prepare some papers or legal stuff.

well, i was helping the people who parepare it. since i am a male (lol) so i was doing men section. so what we used do was; put the deceased in the table, cut they cloths from it and keeping the "3awra" covered. then we press the stomach slowlwly them little hard, so you clean anything comes out from their behind or genitalia area, wash it well 3 times or as it needed, do wuthu for them and put the kafan.

i was doing everything from beginning to until zanaza prayer.

some times i could do it alone in my own table.
