I gotta laugh whenever I remember the story of this Somali guy who went to India to marry a girl from there. Due to the caste system in India, most of Somalis who got married there are only marrying women from lower caste groups. These castes are based on professions. Well, this Somali guy married this gal whose profession is shoe-shining. Basically, that is where her caste does.

Guess what, every time someone visits that family, this girl is right in the yard, shining their shoes. The husband has told her many times to stop it, and if she wants to shine shoes, she coud do his shoes only. But how do you stop something that is pre-programmed in her brain? She has been doing it from her childhood. Perhaps she didn't want to lose her skills. Who knows? She became a butt joke of all of the people who knew that family to the point where the husband had to let her go.

Bottom line, unless the Somalis who are going there are marrying professional Indian women with good upbringing, they are basically getting into a whole lot of package that will give some of them a nightmare. I don't like to disrespect other human beings, but reality is the caste system in India is brutal and it victimized whole lot of people. To the Somali guys who are contemplating on going there, they definitely need to know the grass is not always green on the other side.

Why are some Somalis seeking out Indian brides? Same reason why many Somalis have an obsession with marrying Yemenis or Cadcads; to breed lighter skinned children. However, I cannot understand why they opt for Hyderabadi Indians as they are not as fair skinned as Northern Indians or Pakistanis. They are also not exactly voluptuous venuses and not that blessed in the Fuuto department.

I do not think it has anything to do with an inferiority complex brought about by recent contact with fair skinned ethnic groups. We have always valued Somali women who have fair complexions and soft hair. It was not uncommon for Somali males with wealth (camels or money) to seek out a light skinned Xalimo and many of us would be lying if we deny that this has been part of our culture well before we became more connected to the outside world.

Well even if it is about hair for example, I have seen some Somalis, not least among my own family. There is one aunty of mine whose hair reaches down to her hips, with hair that is thick, straight and naturally brown. When you can find Somalis like that, why opt for an Indian with no curves, and pancake butt?

Zumaale bro, I worked with Muslim Indians who told me that some of the Muslims have already accepted the caste system since it is a profession based. Not sure how much truth to it, but the story that I relayed about the girl who shines shoes is a true story.
