I think for the sake of all Somalis the Capital should be moved elsewhere. Mogadishu is a beautiful city, and I hope the best for the people who live there, but it's been given 25 years. We were dead last in the fragile state index for 7-8 straight years until South Sudan was created and saved us from the embarrassment. We really need to move on from this circus.

If you have to put it in Merka, so be it. That will still be a better start than trying to beat a dead horse in Xamar.

i agree tht us somalis and our "partners" have been trying to solve problems over and over again without really looking at it from a different view. and not once have we ever tried tackling this colossal beast from hell from a different angle.

i strongly believe tht inorder to change things around we must move the capital and like within 100 mile radius of mogadishu like Ahmedboqor proposed but litterally take the whole thing outside of any conflict zones.. and then rebuild the nation.

I would propose any district in somaliland, by doing tht you would automatically bring tht region back from the cold and at the same time create a new somali state with new energy hope and above all an actual reconciliation process tht wont be corrupt by grievances of 30 years ago. if we have to change the flag so be it. if we have to rename the new state welcome it. rewrite the constitution is definitely a must.

and the very first task should be like any other nation to have an army made of all citizens rather than a particular district of a particular city. because tht doesnt work.

second step would be to address each issue by a different departments and by doing so you would give a chance for the country to heal without internal political infighting.

alshabaab is not our major problem its mogadishu. the city is too corrupt to big and too hostile with criminal underground activities dictating her ownership.

and you cant grow your veg in a hostile to vegetation ground...

its either tht and or everyone for himself. we all like love and dream even the iidoors about a fully functioning somali state thts able to reach her full potential but under the current conditions its impossible.

something has to change drastically, i mean a change so powerful it shakes everybody in and outside the region.

There hasn't been a genuine effort from the international community to rebuild Somali state. I mean the whole Somali 'state-building' is placed under Ethiopia - a nation committed to its disintegration. So anyone expects it to work?

We can all argue and come up with many excuses but truth is this so-called 'state-building' in Somalia is designed to fail. It was never planned to work.

You must want change for change to happen.

The 'change the capital' crew are basically saying let the south and their killings go on. Let them be in a state of anarchy, as long as the new capital and surrounding area is conflict free. LOOOL That is the state of the majority of African countries! Only the capital is free from deep poverty and instability but the rest of the their countries? Habaa sheegin. One of the reasons I liked federalism was so that a greater effort was made to build other regions, that has happened. But just like everything else the problem isn't with states, regions or federalism the problem is with the people, their mentality and being led by opportunists from their respective qabiils.

Don't bother with Americans, British and their bloody nonsense - go and speak to Rwandan president. Speak to successful Africans that come from climates, regions and backgrounds such as yourselves.

Guaranteed if south of Somalia becomes more stable and peace prevails, and the people in all regions are thinking let us build a good future for our children and country, then Somalia will become a success story. It is a rich country with lots to offer, it is in a strategic location (hence why people want it to be stable, not for the goodness out of their heart) and the people are hardworkers, but easily fooled and led.

What scares me the most is the insecurity created in order to profit from it { security firms} I firmly believe that is the case in Mogadishu .
