India has a middle class of around 200 million out of 1100million.
and about 60 million people with the lifestyle of developed countries.
The literacy rate is still less than 50%.
still this means they have a pool of 500 million to draw from.

this also means that in india more than half the population have living standards worse than the poorest in somalia and africa.

When i lived in lagos nigeria, i worked with a guy that grew up in poverty and worked his way up.
He lived in slums and was dirt poor, he was working in india and found that indias poor are far worse off than he ever experienced.

India is one hell of a shithole..

drop an indian slum dweller in goma, congo and the some desert in mali and he will think he died and went to heaven,
all those resources,and food...

Another fact I'd like to suggest is that virtually all Indians that live in the West came to their respective countries through a point-based immigration system that doesn't let low-skilled/ill-educated Indians enter a country.

Somalis, on the other hand, were at occasions airlifted directly from refugee camps to Europe/North America. Families that were originally nomadic agropastrolists found themselves in an urban setting. Given the circumstances, I believe Somalis are actually doing well when compared to others.

One point that needs to be emphasised is that most Somalis came to the West fleeing war whilst Indians came seeking economic prosperity.

Gurey, when I was in Delhi back in January for my Masters program project, I met this Indian guy on my last night there. He asked where my group was from and all that.

He told me about his life in the US going to Columbia and working with the Gates Foundation. Then he asked when I was leaving Delhi. I said tomorrow. He says:

"Good! Get the fukk out of here. Seriously! This place is the fukking arm pit of this damn country. I can say this cause I spent my first 18 years here. I'm glad to be going to Mumbai next week. This place is a shid hole, we have the worst people on earth, we have this caste system, we're racist, etc. I'm working on sanitation issues and 18% of the damn water is filtered, girls cant go to school cause of no toilets, the govt builds toilets that dont work after a month. If you're poor, do you really give a shid where you take a shid?!"

He was clearly drunk but man he went on a tangent

Asians particularly south east Asians are a different breed they are perfectionist 90% those that study in the west study Science and technology they have this dedication to succeed a trait u wont see with Africans when it comes to education let alone Somalis. and As Liquid said it starts from a young age to stimulate the mind of their kids. And it something which existed for centuries, as For Indians they are bit submissive i have worked with Indians and they really are but lickers of the white we always used to make jokes about them that the white ceos never need toilet paper if there is an indian around.

I like to follow business, finance and tech news and one thing I have noticed is that all of the major technology, software and financial firms have indian ceos and directors. Why is that, and what can Somalis learn from them? I may be due to the fact that indians are very educationally orientated and academicallly driven people. In my town, most of the GPs and dentists are South Asian.

I have yet to see a Somali doctor in city with thousands of Somalis - that's very sad. I also noticed South Asians take their kids to activities such as computer clubs, chess clubs and sports clubs to help stimulate the body and mind. Somali parents largely leave their kids to their own devices and spend as litle time as possible with them. We also have a very lazy, do as little as possible to barely get by mentality which probably comes from our geeljire/nomadic past.

I live in an ethnically mixed neighbourhood and I never see South Asians kids standing around. They are all either in work, school or university/college. I see plenty of Somali/arab youths laying about doing nothing. Somali youths are also over-represented in prisons/mental institutes. How can we combat this loser, low achieving mentality that has taken hold of us?

What town are you from?

It's all about parenting you have to push your kids and have high expectations for them.
And you have to be there and actively participate in their education.
Being a qad addict never home will lead to disaster.

The traditional approach to child rearing does not work in qurbaha.
You can't let them roam free and expect them to turn out right.
If you live back home you can but in the West you have to work 3 times as hard as somalia

I would love to go to Kerala.
Kerala is an undiscovered jewel.
It's beautiful the people friendly and relatively safe.
I would not advise goa, unless you are into trance music and drugs and don't mind dirty beaches or drunk n horns isrealis
