I am a grown woman but this is my first time paying zakat, don't judge me, hooyo has been paying on my behalf
But seriously when you sit down and count up all your savings, really think about things you have kept or invested in or bought for rainy days, alxamdulillah. That in itself calms you down. Then to willingly give a portion of this rainy day/savings pot/investment to someone else. To actually pass on your effort and what Allah gave to you and hope it makes a difference to someone else. To know that you are doing something which you have been asked to do, not because you have to but because you want to
This is a spiritual high, if you've never done it before, (and I don't mean paying a bit of money to help somene out) I mean the proper way of counting everything you have put aside and donating 2.5% then you really are missing out. Give it a try
How much does the Somali government currently collect in tax? 2.5% is not much but as a society if we had a zakat fund I am sure it would do more than just help the less fortunate, it would help us all, especially the givers
