Sxb you're reaching here!

You're finding words that sounds similar but have completely different meanings! Wad has nothing to do with the pagan God of the people of Noah AS! Hubaal is not the Qurayshi pagan God "hubal"!

This is why you can't take Somalis seriously. It's like saying the word "Hawiye" comes from Arabic "Haawiya".

It's a laughable claim.
Its sooo much of a stretch its beyond laughable. Its Hoobaale or Baale. Hoo baale means tribute to Baale. Its clearly not the same.

Alot of it is made up and speculative ramble. Wad ''Hamitic'' God. :pac: i never heard of WAD being the God of made up Darkskinned Europeans

At least these freethinking blogspots sure make for a good comedy.

Wadd is mentioned in the Qur'an as one of the false deities that used to be worshipped by the people of Nuux.

Other than that, I have no clue how Gerigoor concluded that Somalis must've adopted some ancient pre-historic false deity that used to be worshipped by the people of Noah.

Somalis did have connection with the roman empire/ancient greeks, who knows what people were practicing during the B.C era?

Laas geel and other cave arts shows we were worshiping either animals or honoring animals?

Somalis are a funny bunch. We're so ashamed of our mushrik past that we blame it on Oromos and other communities :pac:

We even invented a bogus Arab lineage to escape that shit :russ:

I am still not convinced, there has never been a concrete research on this subject besides deciphering the names of modern towns like Cabudwaaq (which was built in the 50's) and etc

Could waaq mean another word for God b4 Arabs introduced Islam and Allah to our ancestors?

The two sides agree on one thing: Waaq was worshipped by Somalis, especially in areas close to Oromo and Borane ppl. Was it a pagan religion or the right one at the time b4 Islam? After many debates here on snet, i am still not convinced by either side.

Also, digging into the past doesn't make one less Muslim.

A funny thread; some contributions are excellent. Others not. Laughable.

A few things:

Waaq=God=Allah in the Oromo language and its many offshoots. Oromo muslims, Christians and animists invoke the word “Waaq” to describe their almighty.

Simple.

Qaalu= learned ones. Religious leaders. Again, this is the word to describe the clergy. Islamic scholars are called Qaalu. There is a town in Somalia called Ceel qaalu/Ceel waaq: the well of God/allah; the well of the clergy.

A brief historic lesson:
There were according to many scholars a powerful Hamitic people (probably Oromo origin) who were the masters of some of the Somali territory of today. They were called the “Galla”. The etymology of this word is still debated; a) camel b) atheist/animists c) a tribal name.

What is known is that this people spoke one of the many dialects of the Oromo. Their Allah/god/God was called Waaq.
Caabudwaaq, Ceelwaaq , Ceel qaalu etc are footprints of their existence in Somalia. Gaalkacyo too.

In summary, the word Waaq=Allah=god. If you go to mosques in Ethiopia/Kenya, Waaq is used as synonymous to Allah/Rabi/Ilaahey/Macbuudbka etc.

A BLV IN WAAQ is the same as a BLV in Allah.

Saaxib. There are some interesting books on the Galla:

Lewis, I. M. (1959). The Galla in Northern Somaliland. Rassegna di studi etiopici, 21-38.

MY OWN FAVOURITE are these:
Werner, A. (1914). The Galla of the East Africa Protectorate. Part I. Journal of the Royal African Society, 13(50), 121-142.

Neumann, O. (1902). From the Somali coast through southern Ethiopia to the Sudan. The Geographical Journal, 20(4), 373-398.

Granted much of these literature could be accused of using a eurocentric perspective but they detail a lot of observations.

There is only one true religion everything else is nonsensical folklore. Pure and simple

That being said, I think Lama made it clear that Waaq could very be Allah in local language.

Just like we Somalis refer to Allah as Eebe or in the old Hebrew language they referred Allah as Ab or father hence the root meaning of Rab is Ab which again means father or Eebe in Af Somali.

Either way as long as one recognizes the Oneness and true ONE God, the names in which people use in their language to describe the Almighty does not much matter
