Muzaffar was not a long dynasty, people confuse them with other dynasties, Muzaffar came after the Portuguese, and shortly before the Abgaal took over Mogadishu in the mid 1600s. Probably less than 100 years.

James,

I should perhaps have used the words "Mogadishu Sultanate" rather than Muzaffar dynasty. The point is the same.

https://janakesho1.wordpress.com/2016/01/26/142/

"During the 14th century, Mogadishu established its own Mogadishu currency for its medieval trading empire in the Indian Ocean. It centralized its commercial hegemony by minting coins to facilitate regional trade. The currency bore the names of the 23 successive Sultans of Mogadishu. The oldest pieces date back to 1323-24 and on the front bear the name of Abu Bakr ibn Muhaamad, the then Sultan of Mogadishu. On the back of the coins, the names of the fourCaliphs of the Rashidun Caliphate are inscribed. Other coins were also minted in the style of the extant Fatimid and the Ottoman currencies. Mogadishan coins were in widespread circulation. Pieces have been found as far away as modern United Arab Emirates, where a coin bearing the name of a 15th-century Somali Sultan Ali b. Yusuf of Mogadishu was excavated. Bronze pieces belonging to the Sultans of Mogadishu have also been found at Belid near Salalah in Dhofar. The coins continued to be minted until the 18th century."

The Ajuuraan Empire and the Sultanate of Mogadishu were not the same thing.

It is my understanding that Reer Imaam still exists. The Ajuuraan in Xamar call themselves Moorshe, and are descendants of the Abdalla Dayle lineage. You might be able to find an abtirsi.

I'm not sure about that, I think the Ajuuraan did take over Mogadishu at one point, though that's simply a belief I have, without proper chronicles it's all guesswork

The Muzaffar dynasty issued coins from 1323-1800 AD. This history describes the Ajuraan as an Imamate over a confederation of Hawiyya clans, lasting about 150 years. They did not use the usual Somali titles. The concentration of power ascribed to them came during the Gaal Madow threat and declined as that threat passed. There is a significant scholarly debate over the degree to which the Ajuuraan had control over foreign trade and affairs. If it amounted to much, it looks like it must have been a very brief affair. The Oromo only entered the South during the middle of the 17th century and the Ajuuraan were gone as a governmental power by 1700. The encyclopedias say one thing and the academic papers another. I believe the evidence will eventually show the Ajuuraan were concerned mostly just with interior matters, as the lack of known names would seem to indicate. Contrariwise, I believe the Muzaffars are mostly known.

Thanks brother Sahal for schooling the missionary named Grant. For some reason, this guy wants to deny any Somali presence in the South, particularly one that has Islamic roots. His denial of Ajuran stems from the fact that they were Sunni Muslim who resisted the Portuguese.

If you noticed Grant has recently invented the presence of San people throughout Horn of Africa before the current Somali nomads arrived. He has grouped the Gabooye, Waxar, and Eeyle into this San ethnic group that he has recently invented. He is creating this fiction because as part of his missionary work, he is targeting these Somali tribes. Somalinet and other Somali-populated forums are his propaganda outlets for his work. He needs platforms to convince people there were such people in the HoA before the Somalis.

What I have been trying to figure out is the relationship between Af Samaale and Maay. And what happened to the old term "Khoisan" in the literature. Kindly don't tell me that the Persians, Himyarites, Omanis, etc. who controlled Mogadishu in their day, spoke af Samaale.

I don't know this Professor Ibrahim, but he tells a tale similar to what I am reading in academic papers:

https://momenthistorysociety.wordpress. ... gaaljecel/

"Evidence to be published elsewhere suggests that the Ajuran were in fact a group of allied Hawiyya clans. Moving from the southern Ogaden into the inter-riverine area, these Hawiyya groups gained control of several important chains of wells." The Ajuuraan used titles like Imam, Emir, Wazir, not the equivalent Somali titles. Reer Imaam still exists. They were not Sultans.

https://momenthistorysociety.wordpress. ... mogadishu/

“In ancient times the Sirasi lived in Mogadiscio. The people called Halawani succeeded the Sirasi. The Mudaffar succeeded the Halawani. The Mudaffar came from the country of Yemen in Arabia. He had guns. He built the palace that is found under the Governor’s house. He was a friend of the Aguran. At that time the Mudaffar governed the coast; and the Aguran ruled in the woodland. The Hirabe were not nearby them; they lived in the northern places. At that time the people of the woodland could not spend the night in the city of Mogadiscio. At sunset a ban was put on the city: ‘Hawiyya, it is growing dark! Hawiyy“

"After the Darandoolle Mudulood took control of the Mogadishu city in 1624, they quarrelled with the Ajuraan on the interior. ... They quarrelled over watering rights. The Ajuraan had decreed: ‘At the wells in our territory, the people known as Darandoolle and the other Hiraab cannot water their herds by day, but only at night’’…Then all the Darandoolle gathered in one place. The leaders decided to make war on the Ajuraan. They found the imam of the Ajuraan seated on a rock near a well called Ceel Cawl. They killed him with a sword. As they struck him with the sword, they split his body together with the rock on which he was seated. He died immediately and the Ajuraan migrated out of the country.’

"The Darandoolle became as such the first group to rebel against the tyranny of Ajuraan in the interior, and ever since this Ajuraan defeat other groups would follow in the rebellion which would eventually bring down Ajuraan rule of the inter-riverine region."

My understanding of the Gaal Madow wars is that they followed an Oromo immigration into the South about the middle of the 17th century, following the Portuguese wars. It is supposed to be the most significant Ajuuraan accomplishment. But if the Darandoole had taken Mog in 1624 and were fighting the Ajuuraan over water rights, they were hardly a united force. By 1700, the Ajuuraan were gone as a political force, which is not exactly imperial.

I like the idea of centralized Ajuuraan power existing only as a response to the Portuguese and Gaal Madow threats. Somalis don't create centralized states without major reasons.

Gegi,

I am not going to fight with you over something that requires reading and thought. If you want to have an actual discussion, check into these:

The San are now called pre-Cushitic. They include the Eyle, Makane, Shidle, Shabelli, Aweer, Midgan, Madhibaan, etc. DNA has changed the way the academics look at a lot of things.

It's my understanding that the republic era of Mogadishu was much earlier than that, between the 10th and 13th centuries, after which Abubakar Fakhruddiin became Sultan around 1270 or so. Fakhruddiin's dynasty was succeeded by the Xalwaani who had their capital at Marka, then the Zawzaan of whom I know nothing about, then the Portuguese in 1506. The Omanis, Ottomans and Ajuuraan working together kicked the Portuguese out in 1665 and Muzaffar became Sultan of Mogadishu (he was from Yemen originally). Muzaffar ruled Mogadishu only for a decade or so then the Darandolle Imam took over in 1674 and the Abgaal have basically ruled the city ever since.

Contrariwise, I believe the Muzaffars are mostly known.
stick to your genaale shyt I know you have this afrocentrism approach to somalia like the south belonging to arabs and Bantu hence your against the somaliness of mogadishu by keeping the ajuran in shabelle as an imamate over the hawiye clans!

Before the Persians and arabs landed in xamar there has been some clans of pastoral origin like the dhabarwayne and murshe who have been originally gibil madoow-dark skinned- that's the reason why only somali was spoken in xamar throughout history

Marka is older than migadishu as the first cadcad capital, an ismaeli shiite persian dynasty from marka have settled in Mogadishu as maqad shaah while marka was under the gandaar shaah known locally as gandarshe

Then the Sufi Muslims have arrived from baghdad and spread the Sunni faith in marka and mogadishu

This have led to the decline of the persians. This was good bc the safavid empire was allied with the Portuguese and Venice against ottomans so it would have been easy for Portuguese to capture mogadishu had they arrived in the 11 century

Between 12-15 centuries mogadishu had an elected sultan from the locals and a shaashi judge from the ashraf

From 15-17 mogadishu was under the control of ajuran this is when the muzafar arrived as a potential client for ajuran who resisted the Portuguese in marka

This muzafar had fought the safavids in oman so his arrival looks like being well arranged with the ajuran as anti-safavid-portuguese axis

He lost the power for a new omani dynasty called yarub state that ruled Oman and the UAE so he moved over to mogadishu

This was in the 15 century

"The Nabhani ruler Suleiman bin Mudhafar was removed by the Imam Muhammad ibn Ismail (1500–29).[6] However, the Nabhanis clung to power in the Bahla region.[12] In 1507 the Portuguese captured the coastal city of Muscat, and gradually extended their control along the coast up to Sohar in the north and down to Sur in the southeast.[9

Grant,

Proto Cushitic was spoken in the Horn of Africa as early as 6000 B.C.

We are indigenous to the Horn of Africa and our language family originated in the Horn just like Proto Afro-Asiatic.

No one preceded us in the Horn of Africa and there's no physical, cultural or linguistic trace of any other group. None! :stylin:

Even your Eurocentric Bible associates the Blue Nile (Gihon) and the Horn of Africa with Cush and his descendants.

exactly. Garre was in jubba before the bantu. Baraawe was established by wardaay and then sawahili speaking cascads from mumbasa have settled it
http://tusmaaleey.blogspot.co.uk/2012/0 ... e.html?m=1

http://journals.cambridge.org/action/di ... id=3236728

There is less bantu in oromiya bc between them was the nilotic tribes. The bantu have spread from the coastal kikuya via kismayo and reached qalaafe and iimeey

But their numbers have encreased during the barqash era for example the bantu in xamar r totally former slaves. Gosha of jubba are former slaves that why they dont speak sawahili rather a mozambique language
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bantus_(Somalia)

If you read this book you will see how many of them were stationed in the somali ports. She says one million was gathered in their zinjibar house waiting for deportation!

During the British military administration some have arrived as soldiers from west africa like aways khamises father
