I was just watching the latest installment of SheekoSheeko & they were discussing Maryan's last place finish and the struggle of 2008 Beijing runner Samia (AUN), in which Samia and a fellow Olympian had shared shoes. I got so angry because everybody talked about how poor of a nation Somalia is and them not being able to afford funding for proper trials. Sure they aren't even close to having the same resources as first world countries, but with the amount the IOC gives every participating country, one would think they would atleast be able to travel to the major cities within Somalia and hold try outs. I mean surely the amount could atleast afford different shoes for the runners. One has to wonder where this money goes. It sure isn't going to the athletes. Why even bring them at all? Clearly to keep receiving that handsome sum from the International Olympic Committee. It's tuugonimo at it's finest. I love how Ugaasadda's husband (AKA heir to the Hormud throne) was there with the Somali Olympic Team. I just know with that special pass he had, he did not travel on his own finances.
